2025 Fantasy Outlook
A second-round pick, Shough (pronounced “shuck”) was the third QB selected in this year’s draft. He was plagued by injuries in his seven-year college career, finally staying healthy enough last season to throw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns at Louisville. He completed only 62.7 percent of his passes, making accuracy a concern, especially downfield. At 6-foot-5, 219 pounds, Shough has good size with a strong arm and solid mechanics, but he's not as mobile as his 4.61 40 might seem to suggest. He’ll also turn 26 a few weeks into the season, which likely limits his room for growth. Even so, he’s the probable Week 1 starter after Derek Carr abruptly retired in May. The Saints likely will look into signing a veteran, as Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener were the only QBs on the roster at the time of Carr's retirement. If Shough finds himself under center, he’ll have a few good receiving options, namely Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Alvin Kamara likely will handle a lot of the workload for new head coach Kellen Moore, who likes to lean on his running backs, confining Shough to a game-manager role. Read Past Outlooks

To be second QB up Saturday
Shough will serve as the No.2 quarterback behind Spencer Rattler during Saturday's preseason finale against the Broncos, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Shough was outplayed by Rattler during New Orleans' 17-17 preseason tie against Jacksonville on Sunday, in which he got the start but completed just nine of 12 pass attempts for 66 yards across four possessions. While head coach Kellen Moore confirms that starting Rattler on Saturday doesn't indicate that a decision for Week 1 has been made, per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Shough will certainly need to perform better versus Denver in order to make his case for opening the regular season under center. Across his two preseason showings combined, the rookie second-round pick has completed 24 of 34 pass attempts for 231 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
New pass-catching weapon on roster
Shough, who remains in competition with Spencer Rattler for the No. 1 quarterback job heading into the preseason finale against the Broncos, saw a new wide receiver in Devaughn Vele join the roster via trade with Denver on Wednesday, as reported by Jeff Legwold and Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Shough has been exceedingly sharp over his first two preseason games, completing 70.6 percent of his passes with a touchdown and interception. The rookie second-round pick therefore appears to have a good chance of emerging from the job battle as the winner, and if he does, he'll get quite the sizable target in the 6-foot-5 Vele, who was a valuable weapon for fellow rookie Bo Nix in Denver last season while producing a 41-475-3 receiving line on 55 targets across 13 regular-season games.
