The Eagles signed Davis-Price to a reserve/future contract Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis-Price signed a one-year contract with the Eagles in February of 2024 after spending the first two years of his NFL career with the 49ers. He was unable to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but Davis-Price stuck around on the practice squad and was elevated for Week 17 against the Cowboys, during which he logged three carries for seven yards. Davis-Price will have the opportunity to participate in the Eagles' OTAs, minicamp and training camp in his quest to earn a spot on the 53-man roster for the 2025 season.

2022
The 49ers selected Davis-Price in the third round of the 2022 Draft to replace a failed third-round running back from the year prior (Trey Sermon), but it appears they may have made a similar blunder in consecutive offseasons. The LSU product failed to grasp a significant role on offense, finishing the season with 99 yards on 34 carries while falling behind undrafted rookie Jordan Mason on the depth chart. Unlike Sermon, Davis-Price remains on the 49ers' roster heading into his sophomore campaign, but he currently projects to serve as the fourth RB behind Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell and Mason.
Kyle Shanahan's ability to turn unheralded running backs into productive NFL players is almost a cliche at this point, as guys like Elijah Mitchell, Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson have enjoyed productive stretches in his system. That's going to put Davis-Price on a lot of sleeper lists, even though few projected him as a third-round pick before the 2022 NFL Draft. The 49ers took him 93rd overall, after Davis-Price ran for 1,744 yards in three seasons at LSU (1,004 his final year) and put up a 4.48 40 at the combine. Incumbent starter Mitchell enters training camp atop the depth chart, but between Mitchell's long list of injuries last season and Shanahan's history of backfield surprises, there are a few different paths for a backup like Davis-Price, Wilson or Trey Sermon to come into fantasy value. Sermon was a bust last year after also being a surprise third-round pick in the draft, and while Davis-Price could ultimately meet the same fate, summer ADP suggests it'll at least be much cheaper to find out.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May have significant role Sunday
RBFree Agent
January 1, 2025
Davis-Price, who was promoted from the practice squad for the Eagles' Week 17 win over the Cowboys and logged his first three carries of the season, could enjoy a solid role in the regular-season finale against the Giants due to the fact Saquon Barkley will be held out for rest purposes, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
No. 2 running back Kenneth Gainwell may open the game as the starter, but given the latter is a key complementary piece of the Eagles offense, he may not handle a heavy workload. No. 3 running back Will Shipley missed Week 17 with a concussion and remains in the protocol as of Wednesday. If Shipley isn't available to play Sunday, Davis-Price could be tasked with filling a relatively robust role as Gainwell's top backup.
