2025 Fantasy Outlook
It seemed like injuries and age had sapped Ertz’s ability when he tore his ACL in 2022 and then had just 187 yards through seven games in 2023 prior to a quadriceps injury. He proved otherwise after signing with Washington last offseason, ultimately playing every game and finishing second on the team behind Terry McLaurin in all the major receiving categories (66 catches for 654 yards and seven touchdowns on 91 targets). Ertz tied for fourth among tight ends in TDs and was third at the position with 21 red-zone targets, in addition to posting his best catch rate (72.5 percent) and most yards per target (7.2) since 2018. The risk of age-related decline remains substantial heading into his age-34/35 season, and there's some risk 2024 second-round pick Ben Sinnott will earn a larger role in 2025 at Ertz’s expense. On the other hand, Ertz finished last season strong with 104 yards in Washington’s NFC Championship Game loss, and he should at least maintain a role in clear passing situations for an offense that figures to remain efficient with QB Jayden Daniels and OC Kliff Kingsbury leading the way. Turns in vintage performance
Ertz recorded 10 receptions on 13 targets for 106 yards in Sunday's 27-26 overtime loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Ertz has enjoyed increased production with Marcus Mariota under center, and he led the Commanders in both receptions and yards. In contrast to past weeks, he was used both deep down the field and in short areas, logging long receptions of 21 and 18 yards to help him top 100 receiving yards for the first time since Week 9 of the 2019 campaign. Ertz now has at least four receptions in five consecutive games. While he could be in for a downturn in opportunity moving forward due to the return of Terry McLaurin, Ertz was prioritized ahead of Deebo Samuel for targets in Sunday's loss.

Ertz has topped 700 receiving yards seven times in his impressive career, most recently doing so in 2021. His best days are behind him at age 33, but the question is, does Ertz have any gas left in the tank at all? He had just 187 receiving yards in seven games for the Cardinals in 2023 before missing the rest of the regular season due to a quadriceps injury, though he joined the Lions during the postseason, at least indicating that the injury has healed. The Commanders signed Ertz in hopes of squeezing one more productive year out of the veteran, and rookie second-round pick Ben Sinnott will be Ertz’s chief competition for playing time. If he has enough juice left to beat out Sinnott, Ertz could carve out a prominent role as a security blanket for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

On verge of joining elite group
Ertz needs two more catches to become the sixth tight end in NFL history with 800 career receptions, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 34-year-old could reach that rarified air Monday night against Kansas City, joining a group that includes one of his MNF opponents in Travis Kelce, as well as Hall of Famers Tony Gonzalez, Shannon Sharpe and Antonio Gates, and future inductee Jason Witten. Ertz is on the tail end of his career, but he's still been productive for the Commanders in 2025, catching 23 of 34 targets through seven games for 229 yards and four touchdowns.
