NHL Odds Insights and Best Bets for Tonight's Matchups

Chicago Blackhawks at Vegas Golden Knights

The Blackhawks (11-9-5) and Golden Knights (11-6-8) battle at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and the game is available on ESPN+ and hulu.

Chicago has posted a respectable 5-4-2 record on the road this season, while Vegas has managed a 6-4-4 mark on home ice.

The Blackhawks had been skidding, going 0-4-1 in five games from Nov. 20-28 before halting that slide with a 5-3 win over the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Sunday in Chicago. Spencer Knight actually gave up three goals in the first period, as the Blackhawks fell behind 3-0, but the offense got its sea legs, and the defense and Knight didn't allow anything more.

Budding superstar Connor Bedard was instrumental in the victory, posting two goals with four points and a plus-2 rating across 20:14 of time on ice (TOI), while winning seven of his 12 faceoff attempts (58.0 percent) with five shots on goal (SOG). His first goal, an unassisted even-strength goal at 9:55 of the third period, was the game-winning tally.

Vegas also halted a mini-skid, winning 4-3 against the San Jose Sharks at The Fortress on Saturday night. It was 0-2-2 in the previous four games, as the Over is now 3-1-1 in the past five outings. Despite the win, the defense and goaltending has been suspect lately, allowing three or more goals in five straight outings, allowing 4.0 goals per game (GPG) in the span.

VGK saw Tomas Hertl rise up and help the team to a much-needed win. He had an even-strength goal in the first period, and a power-play goal in the second period, and that stood up as the game-winning tally, as Carl Lindbom made 18 saves to hang on for the victory.

The Golden Knights won two of the three meetings last season, and the Over easily cashed in each. We had a total of 28 goals, with at least eight goals apiece, in each of the battles. That's 9.3 average goals per game, with the Over going 5-1 in the past six in this series.

The Over has cashed in each of the past three games for the Blackhawks, and Chicago has allowed 21 goals in the span, or 4.2 GPG.

In November, Vegas is just 5-4-5 in 14 games, and just two of the wins were by more than two goals. Let's back Chicago catching the goal and a half, while going Over on the total.

  • Blackhawks +1.5 Goals (-105 at BetMGM)
  • Over 6 (-120 at Bet365 and BetMGM Sportsbooks)

Washington Capitals at Los Angeles Kings

The Capitals (15-9-2) and Kings (12-6-7) meet at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Washington has won four of five games in this series since Nov. 29, 2023, including a 2-1 victory by the Capitals in D.C. on Nov. 17 as slight favorites (-110) as the Under (5.5) cashed. The Under is 5-1 in the past six games in this series, and 7-2 in the previous nine installments.

In that game two weeks ago, Matt Roy opened the scoring, with helpers to Aliaksei Protas and Tom Wilson, before Alex Ovechkin scored a goal at 1:51 of the second period with Jakob Chychrun and Connor McMichael notching apples. Anze Kopitar netted a power-play goal to slice the lead in half late in the second period, but that's as close as L.A. could get.

The Kings posted a 2-1 win in overtime on home ice Sunday, and Los Angeles has been involved in eight straight games since Nov. 13, going 4-1-3 in those outings, with the Under going 3-1 in the past four games, and 5-2 in the previous seven outings.

Washington steams in with four straight victories, scoring at least four goals in each of the games (4.3 GPG), while allowing just seven goals (1.8 GPG). The Under is 2-1-1 in the stretch, too.

Logan Thompson (11-6-1, 2.08 GAA, .916 SV%) is projected to go for the Caps, with Darcy Kuemper (8-4-5, 2.38 GAA, .907 SV%, 1 SO) likely for the Kings.

Based on the hot play of the Caps lately, as well as the series trends, let's back Washington to get the job done on the road, while going low on the total.

  • Under 5.5 (-105 at Bet365, BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbooks)
