NHL Thursday Night Betting Overview and Top Odds Insights
Anaheim Ducks
at Detroit Red Wings
The Ducks (11-4-1) and Red Wings (9-7-0) meet at Little Caesars Arena at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Anaheim is licking its wounds after a 4-1 loss at Colorado in a measuring stick game Tuesday. There's no rest for the weary, as it faces another tough stop on the three-game road trip in The D. That loss halted a seven-game win streak, which included a 5-2 win over the Red Wings on Halloween at Honda Center as slight favorites (-120) as the Over (6.5) cashed.
The Red Wings are skidding, falling 5-1 at home against the Chicago Blackhawks Sunday as the total pushed (6) at most shops. Detroit has lost three in a row, and the Red Wings have been outscored 10-2 in a three-game losing streak. The Under is 3-0-1 in the past four games for the Wings, too.
In that Anaheim win Oct. 31 against Detroit, Troy Terry opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal. He opened the scoring, and he closed it with an empty-net goal. In between, Leo Carlsson and Mason McTavish scored even-strength goals, while Chris Kreider had a power-play goal. Lucas Raymond and Alex Brincat (PPG) scored, and both players assisted on each other's goals, too. Lukas Dostal allowed two goals on 30 shots in the victory. Carlsson had three assists in addition to the goal.
The Ducks have won four of the past six meetings since Nov. 15, 2022, and the Over has cashed in three straight in the series. Let's take Anaheim and go high on the total.

Edmonton Oilers
at Columbus Blue Jackets
The Oilers (8-6-4) and Blue Jackets (8-7-1) meet at 7:30 p.m. ET at Nationwide Arena on ESPN+ and hulu. Edmonton has managed a 3-5-2 mark on the road this season, while Columbus has posted a 3-3-0 record at home.
The Oilers picked up a 2-1 overtime victory in Philadelphia on Wednesday night as slight favorites (-115) as the Under (5.5) cashed behind Stuart Skinner. He made 20 saves, while Evan Bouchard scored an even-strength goal in the first period, and Jack Roslovic scored the OT winner to send the Flyers fans home sad. Matt Savoie picked up helpers on each of the Edmonton goals.
Edmonton has gone to overtime or a shootout in six of the past nine games, and 10 of the past 12 have been decided by one goal, too. The Oilers are playing on no rest, and the last time they did it, Edmonton suffered a 4-3 SOW at Dallas on Nov. 4. Prior to that, Edmonton lost 4-3 in overtime at Vancouver on Oct. 26. And, on Oct. 19, Edmonton lost at Detroit 4-2 on no rest. That's 0-1-2 in three games when playing in the second end of a back-to-back, with the Over going 2-0-1 in those games.
These teams just met in Edmonton, with a 5-4 overtime victory at Rogers Place on Monday night as moderate (-165) favorites as the Over (6.5) cashed. Adam Fantilli and Boone Jenner each had a goal and an assist in a losing effort, while Jet Greaves allowed five goals on just 24 shots.
Roslovic had a goal and an assist with a plus-3 rating in the OTW, while Connor McDavid scored two goals, and Jake Walman had two goals, a helper, a plus-2 rating and four shots on goal. One of those goals was of the shorthanded variety, too, as Skinner kicked aside 18 of the 22 shots he faced for the victory.
The home team has won six in a row in this series since Feb. 25, 2023, with the Over cashed in the past three meetings. The home team has won nine of the past 10 in the series, too.
Let's roll with the Blue Jackets at home, as the Oilers have struggled when playing on no rest, while we also side with the series trends, which are rather overwhelming.
