NHL Wednesday Night: Top Betting Picks and Parlay Insights

Minnesota Wild at New Jersey Devils

The Wild (3-3-1) and the Devils (5-1-0) meet at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

Minnesota wraps up a five-game road trip against New Jersey. The Wild are 1-2-1 in the first four games on the trip, while the Undere is 2-0-1 in the past three outings. Minnesota has lit the lamp just seven times on the trip, averaging 1.8 goals per game (GPG).

Filip Gustavsson did a good job last time out, turning aside 23 of 24 shots to help the Wild to a win as moderate underdogs (+150) as the Under (5.5) cashed. After slipping behind 1-0 in the first minute of the game, Jonas Brodin and Danila Yurov had even-strength goals, while Kirill Kaprizov scored into the empty net to put a bow on the scoring.

The Devils roughed up the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 last time out as short 'dogs (+110) on the road, winning for the fifth consecutive game. The offense is hitting on all cylinders, netting at least three goals in all six games to date, averaging 4.0 goals per game (GPG), while allowing just 2.2 GPG in the previous five outings.

Jake Allen is the starting tendy with Jacob Markstrom sidelined due to a lower-body injury. He is considered week-to-week. The Devils are also missing wingers Evgenii Dadonov (hand), Stefan Noesen (groin) and Juho Lammikko (undisclosed).

The Wild are at the end of a road trip, while the Devils are a little banged up. However, New Jersey should be able to find a way on home ice, and the way it is lighting the lamp, let's side with the Over.

  • Devils ML (-135 at Bet365, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings and ESPN Bet Sportsbooks)
  • Over 5.5 Goals (-125 at Bet365, Caesars, DraftKings and ESPN Bet Sportsbooks)

Detroit Red Wings at Buffalo Sabres

The Red Wings (5-1-0) and Sabres (2-4-0) meet in the only nationally-televised game at 7:30 p.m. ET.

After Buffalo won the first meeting of these Atlantic Division rivals last season, Detroit won the final three in the series. The last two meetings were insane, with Detroit winning 6-5 in a shootout in Buffalo on Dec. 9, 2024, as an underdog (+115) as the Over (6.5) cashed, while the Red Wings won 7-3 on March 12 as moderate favorites (-145) as the Over (6.5) also hit.

The Red Wings have won five of the past six meetings since March 16, 2024, too, while the Over is 7-3 across the previous 10 installments.

After a 5-1 beatdown in the opener against the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 9, the Red Wings have rattled off five straight wins, while the Under is 3-0-1 in the past four outings. John Gibson has won the past two starts, allowing just three goals.

The Sabres lost 4-2 against the Canadiens on the road Monday, halting a modest two-game win streak. The Under is 4-1-1 in six games for Buffalo. Alex Lyon has been holding down the fort, starting every game to date, as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) is sidelined.

Let's ride with the Red Wings to stay hot, while leaning low on the total.

  • Red Wings ML (-110 at BetMGM)
  • Under 6.5 Goals (-130 at ESPN Bet Sportsbooks)

Montreal Canadiens at Calgary Flames

The Canadiens (5-2-0) and Flames (1-6-0) meet at Scotiabank Saddledome at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

The Flames have swept the series in each of the past two series, while the Under is 5-1 in the past six meetings since Dec. 1, 2022. Regardless of the winner, six of the past seven in the series have been one-goal games.

Montreal has seen plenty of offense so far, going for three or more goals in each of the past six games, averaging 3.8 GPG in the span. The Over-Under is 2-2-2 in the six-game stretch, so there isn't much to glean there from the trends.

Calgary has been ice-cold, and that's because the offense can't get the job done. After a 4-3 SOW in Edmonton to start the season, the Flames have scored just eight goals in the six-game losing streak, while allowing 24 goals, or 4.0 GPG.

It's pretty cut and dry here. Let's back the Canadiens straight up, and it's a bit surprising they're not favored by much more. And let's avoid the total, and just focus on the ML.

  • Canadiens ML (-125 at Bet365, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings and ESPN Bet Sportsbooks)
