Last weekend UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes cemented herself as the best bantamweight on the planet. The main event of UFC Sacramento may have determined her next challenger, as Germaine de Randamie was thoroughly dominant. The following is a by-the-numbers recap that highlights the stats and milestones that stood out on the main card, with stats courtesy of UFCStats.com.
Germaine de Randamie stops Aspen Ladd in 16 seconds
Well, there is not really much to say about this fight. De Randamie had a clear advantage in standing striking skill, and it was evident right away. In the end, De Randamie's third strike landed right on Ladd's chin and sent her to the canvas. After only one more strike on the ground, referee Herb Dean jumped in and stopped the fight. It appeared to be a bit premature, but it also seemed like it was only a matter of time.
De Randamie has always had the striking to compete with anyone in the bantamweight division. Over the last few years, she has worked hard to improve her overall MMA game. A rematch with Nunes could turn out to be an interesting fight.
The former featherweight champion did not have a lot of time to put up points on DraftKings. However, she made the most of her 16 seconds and put up 102 points, which was the fourth highest score of the night.
Urijah Faber scores epic victory over Ricky Simon in comeback
In his comeback showing, Faber took full advantage of the opportunity to turn back the clock. He needed only 46 seconds score a TKO victory over Simon. He needed 11 significant strikes to earn that stoppage. Faber's previous fastest finish the UFC/WEC was a 1:34-long submission victory over Jens Pulver in 2009. It will be interesting to see where he goes in the bantamweight division now. This was clearly a big win, but he seems to still be a long way from contendership.
Faber finished with the third-highest score of the night on DraftKings. He earned 105.5 points based on 11 landed significant strikes, a knockdown and the 90-point finish bonus.
Josh Emmett does it again against Mirsad Bektic
Bektic came out looking to throw with a lot of volume. He threw 65 significant strike attempts. Unfortunately for him, he had no viable strategy to close the distance, and he landed only 10 of those attempts (15 percent). Emmett was more patient, and he scored a knockdown with a step-in jab. Following that, he unleashed on the ground where he landed 15 of his 20 significant ground strike attempts to finish the fight. Emmett relies on his power on the feet, but his ability to ensure the finish with vicious ground and pound was impressive.
Emmett had the highest DraftKings score of the night. He earned players 116.5 points, thanks to 27 landed significant strikes, a pass, a knockdown and the finish bonus. He is coming off a pair of knockout finishes, and it appears as if he will be a major point threat going forward.
Karl Roberson outlands Wellington Turman in all positions
Turman had his moments with his grappling in this fight. However, he did not do enough damage on the top position and struggled in the standing portion of the fight. On the feet, Roberson outlanded Turman 15 to eight at distance and eight to five in the clinch. Even though Turman scored four takedowns and seven passes, Roberson scored three reversals and outlanded Turman 27 to 12 in terms of significant ground strikes. Turman could have likely take this decision if he concentrated on landing hard strikes on the floor instead of spamming ill-fated submissions.
Even though Turman was not really able to get his striking going, his grappling did force Roberson to play defense for large portions of this fight. He landed only 50 significant strikes in the 15 minute fight, and therefore finished with only 73 points on DraftKings.
Marvin Vettori proves to be too much for Cezar Ferreira
This was a relatively close fight in the opening round. Vettori outlanded "Mutante" 23 to 17 on significant strikes, but Ferreira had his moments. However, over the next two rounds, Vettori continued to expand his lead in the striking numbers. He finished the fight with a 78 to 39 advantage in terms of significant strikes, and it certainly seemed like he could have earned the stoppage if he turned up the volume in the third round. Ferreira is usually a reliable takedown artist, but Vettori took him out of that game and stopped all five of his attempts, including four in the final round.
Vettori finished with 85 points on DraftKings. He easily could have put up major points in this fight with a finish, but he could not get it done in the final round.
