Fifth straight stoppage win
Almeida defeated Jair Rozenstruik via submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:43 of Round 1 at UFC on ABC 4 on Saturday in Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
If there was ever a fight that played out exactly how everyone expected, this was it. The entire world knew Almeida was going to shoot on Rozenstruik in hopes of getting him to the mat. Jair defended the first attempt, but the second one landed, effectively ending the bout right then and there. Almeida racked up some control time from top position before taking Rozenstruik's back and choking him out. Jailton first burst on the scene with a submission win on Dana White's Contender Series in September 2021. He's fought five times for the UFC since officially joining the roster in February 2022, winning all five via stoppage, including four in the first round. Now, it's worth noting those five wins have come against lesser competition (Rozenstruik, Shamil Abdurakhimov, Anton Turkalj, Parker Porter, Danilo Marques), but Almeida has been so impressive that the company likely has no choice but to give him a "name" opponent his next time out. After all, Almeida was given a main event slot here in order to help get his name out there, and he delivered. He'll also take home one of five $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses awarded on the afternoon for his efforts here.

Fighting again in May
Almeida will take on Jair Rozenstruik at the UFC event on May 13, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Almedia was able to run through Shamil Abdurakhimov last month. He has been on an impressive run in his short time with the UFC, dominating in each of his four bouts. He will get some better competition in a few months time against Rozenstruik.

Unstoppable run continues
Almeida defeated Shamil Abdurakhimov via TKO (punches) at 2:56 of Round 2 at UFC 283 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
It was literally the most lopsided eight-minute fight you will ever see. Almeida was credited with 7:28 worth of control time in addition to landing 3-of-5 takedown attempts and an 89-3 edge in total strikes landed. That's what you get when you enter as roughly a -1000 favorite. Yes, the competition Almeida has faced in his first four UFC bouts has been exceedingly poor, but he's looked legitimately unstoppable thus far. Almeida will be turning 32 years of age in late June, so he isn't a kid. The company is going to have no choice but to push him sooner rather than later, whether that be at heavyweight or light heavyweight (he came in roughly 30 pounds lighter than his opponent here). In the meantime, he'll walk away with a $50,000 bonus after this effort was awarded Performance of the Night honors.

Trying for Abdurakhimov again
Almeida will face Shamil Abdurakhimov at UFC 283 on Jan. 21, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Almeida was supposed to fight Maxim Grishin on Saturday, but the fight was cancelled for undisclosed reasons. Almeida and Abdurakhimov has been booked two other times but fell through. Hopefully this time there are no issues at the UFC's second event of 2023.

Fight scratched
The UFC has cancelled Saturday's fight between Almeida and Maxim Grishin, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
There was no reason given as to why the fight has been called off. Almeida has now seen a total of five bookings fall through during his career with the UFC. He was last in the Octagon on Sept. 10 when he submitted Anton Turkalj.
