FPL Transfer Watch: Preparing for Week 24

FPL Transfer Watch: Preparing for Week 24

This article is part of our FPL Transfer Watch series.

After another wild week in the Premier League that saw a match with nine goals, Leicester City jump to the top of the table by themselves and Chelsea shut out Arsenal for the sixth time in a row, the FA Cup fourth round waits this weekend. However, the Premier League will be back Tuesday and Wednesday with a full slate of matches including Leicester vs. Liverpool, Manchester United vs. Stoke City and eight more great reasons to skip work.

Here are three players being dropped in the Premier League's official game like they're toxic who might be worth a closer look and three that are being added who you may want to reconsider before making the plunge:

Who's In

Alexis Sanchez (MID)
In a collective sigh of relief for Arsenal fans, the team is finally starting to get healthy again, with none of those returnees being quite as important as Alexis. The Chilean winger missed eight Premier League matches with a hamstring concern, but came on for the final half-hour of last weekend's defeat against Chelsea. Thanks to his return to health, Alexis is now the 10th-most transferred-in player; however, you may want to wait a bit before adding him to your own squad. After returning from his mandated rest by Arsene Wenger at the beginning of the season, it took him six matches to get going again before breaking out for a hat trick against Leicester. Alexis is one of the best players in the Premier League, but fantasy owners may want to wait for his first start before bringing him into your squad.

Enner Valencia (FWD)
While the the most transferred-in players are the bigger names, all the way down at 16th on the list is Valencia. After struggling with injury for much of the first half of the season, the Ecuador international has set the league on fire over the past three matches. Costing just £5.8, down £0.2 from his original value, Valencia has two braces in his past three matches with an assist thrown in for good measure. With a match against Aston Villa, who currently reside at the bottom of the table and six points below 19th-place Sunderland, there's never been a better time to jump on the Valencia bandwagon with just 0.7 percent of other fantasy players owning him.

Bacary Sagna (DEF)
The French right back missed City's last clean sheet when they took on Crystal Palace two weeks ago, but he's supplied two assists in his last six matches. He's also quite disciplined, picking up two yellow cards in 21 matches this season while keeping nine clean sheets. Sunderland's offense has hardly set the world on fire this season, scoring 28 goals in 23 matches and mustering up only one against City on Boxing Day when they last faced off. At £5.7, Sagna is not the cheapest option, but City's strong defensive record and fight for the top of the table makes him the most transferred-in defender for a reason.

Who's Out

Marko Arnautovic (MID)
The most transferred out player of the week is Arnautovic, with more than 85,000 people deciding they had better use for his £6.3 salary than to wait for his recovery. With seven goals in 21 Premier League matches, he's above much higher cost players such as Alexis Sanchez, Wayne Rooney, Raheem Sterling and Anthony Martial in the goal-scoring department. He's also added four assists, above teammate Xherdan Shaqiri and Newcastle stud Georginio Wijnaldum. Arnautovic returned to the starting XI and scored the match's only goal for Stoke City's Capital One Cup aggregate defeat on penalties at Anfield against Liverpool. All of this is to say, it will hard to be find anyone as cost efficient as Arnautovic and owners should not follow the crowd and hold on to the Austrian.

Kevin De Bruyne (MID)
De Bruyne is currently the fourth-most dropped player with more than 64,000 people transferring the Belgian out of their squads. Despite his recent drop in form, tallying just one assist and no goals in his past five matches while seeing his price remain stagnant at £10.8, he's still one of the most creative midfielders in the Premier League. His ability to pump in crosses gives him a chance at bonus points week-in and week-out while his nine assists are second to only Mesut Ozil, who is having one of the best season's when it comes to assists in Premier League history. With Sunderland up next, fans will look to his one-goal, two-assist performance on Boxing Day (worth 16 points) as a sign that patience is a virtue.

Boaz Myhill (GK)
Ben Foster missed the first 20 matches of the season with a knee injury and then took three more Premier League matches to get back in playing shape. However, Foster has kept clean sheets in his past two matches across all comps. This leaves Myhill out in the cold as the Welsh keeper was dropped from the starting XI thanks to conceding five goals in his past two starts and the return of Foster. Myhill's still owned by 9.1 percent of teams, which can and should drop down to zero, as the backup keeper for the 14th-place team is not worth a roster spot. He's the most-dropped keeper and in this case, owners have gotten it right. If you have him, now would be the best remaining time to get rid of him before his value drops below £4.6.
