DraftKings MLB: Sunday Breakdown

DraftKings MLB: Sunday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

We get seven games today featured on the DraftKings main slate for Sunday. The Rays and Orioles start things off at 1:05 EST. The pitching options may be the ugliest we've seen so far, so most likely picking two and holding your nose will be the best way to approach your roster construction while hoping the bats can get the job done in the end.

Pitchers

Aaron Civale, CLE at MIN ($9,600): Usually, I try to avoid recommending pitchers facing the Twins as they deploy a string of power bats on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we don't have a whole lot to choose from. Civale has a few things going for him, one being he should have the longest leash of any pitcher on the slate, as he showed in his first start by hurling 100 pitches in a nine-K win versus the White Sox. He also faced this team last year and experienced decent results by posting 19.10 and 13.65 fantasy point outings, respectively.

Jon Lester, PIT at CHC ($9,000): I normally wouldn't ever consider paying that much for Lester, but we are limited today with pitching options. He faces a Pirates team averaging close to 10 strikeouts per game and sit bottom of the league in runs per game at 3.62. Despite not possessing much strikeout capability, Lester is a great game manager and comes off a 76-pitch, five-inning victory against the Reds. He should be able to do the same to a less imposing Pirates team, even if his ceiling isn't the highest on the slate.

Top Targets

Wil Myers, SDP at COL ($4,800): Myers will face Colorado pitcher Antonio Senzatela, against whom he's gone 7-for-18 lifetime with four extra-base hits and one home run. He should be able to continue his success here as Senzatela gave up a .300 batting average to right-handed batters in 2019 and has the disadvantage of pitching in the launching pad better known as Coors Field.

Yoan Moncada, CWS at KC ($4,000): Moncada has seen Royals' pitcher Jakob Junis 20 times over his career, converting nine of those at-bats into hits - including two homers. Moncada is a switch hitter, so he always has the platoon advantage in his favor. Assuming he bats from the right today since Junis allowed close to a .300 average to that side of the plate in 2019.

Best Values

Adam Frazier, PIT at CHC ($3,400): Despite recommending Jon Lester, he still can give up some hits. And that's something Frazier has done six times in his career against Lester. He could also get bumped to the leadoff spot today, putting him in a potential position to score a run or two.

Renato Nunez, BAL vs. TB ($3,700): Nunez has gotten off to a decent start, going hitless in only one game so far. He gets Yonny Chirinos, a pitcher he's faced 12 times and has managed four hits and two home runs. Chirinos is a capable pitcher, but gave upon 16 long balls to right-handed batters in 2019. I like Nunez taking him deep here again.

Stacks to Consider

With a slate like this one, finding a five-man stack and then home run hunting with some one-offs could be a winning strategy as there are so many bad pitching situations on the board. Possibly taking two dart throw SPs and loading up on bats from the Coors showdown may find you in contention to take down tournaments today.
