DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Alex Wood, LAD at ATL ($11,400): The Braves got to Wood for nine runs through just 4.2 innings July 21, so there is obviously some cause for concern. However, the overall body of work from the lefty should carry more weight. Wood sports a dominant 2.52 FIP and 28.2 strikeout percentage for the year, after all. Atlanta has posted a solid .331 wOBA against southpaws, so Wood's ownership could be held in check.

Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS vs. CWS ($7,200): This is a buy-low spot for Rodriguez. He has allowed 11 runs through 14.2 innings over three starts since returning from the disabled list, but don't forget that the lefty started the season with a 2.77 ERA and 9.6 K/9 through his first nine starts. The White Sox own a league-worst .291 wOBA over the past 30 days, too.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KC vs. SEA ($4,000): This salary doesn't align with Perez's career-best production or his target-worthy matchup against Yovani Gallardo. Perez sports a .357 wOBA against righties for the year, and Gallardo has surrendered a .363 mark.

FIRST BASE

Joey Votto, CIN at PIT ($5,100): Chad Kuhl has struggled against left-handed hitters this season with a .382 wOBA and 36.6 hard-hit percentage allowed. Votto is putting a recent slump behind him with an active seven-game hitting streak and owns an impressive 1.000 OPS, .264 ISO and .414 wOBA against right-handed arms.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs. DET ($5,200): With Matt Boyd allowing a .363 wOBA and 40.5 hard-hit percentage to right-handed hitters, Schoop lands in an ideal matchup. The second baseman sports a high-end .296 ISO and .387 wOBA against lefties this season.

THIRD BASE

Rafael Devers, BOS vs. CWS ($3,700): The rookie posted a 1.075 OPS against right-handed pitchers with Triple-A Pawtucket and is 12-for-28 with four extra-base hits to start his career at the highest level. Devers' salary also jumps off the page with a favorable matchup against Miguel Gonzalez (.355 wOBA allowed to left-handed hitters).

SHORTSTOP

Jean Segura, SEA vs. KC ($3,700): This is the right price range to take a speculative stab at Segura. He's posted a solid .347 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season and settled back into the two-hole of the order recently. Trevor Cahill has allowed .364 wOBA to right-handed hitters this year, so it isn't a tough matchup, either.

OUTFIELD

Enrique Hernandez, LAD at ATL ($4,600): The lefty specialist has posted a .993 OPS, .376 ISO and .402 wOBA against southpaws this season. Rookie Sean Newcomb just faced the Dodgers July 23, so despite holding right-handed hitters to a measly .318 wOBA, this shouldn't be viewed as a daunting matchup.

Adam Jones, BAL vs. DET ($3,600): With a soft matchup against Matt Boyd, Jones' recent production against lefties stands out at this salary. The veteran outfielder sports a .446 wOBA against southpaws dating back to mid-July, and as noted, Boyd has been hit hard by right-handed hitters.

Jesse Winker, CIN at PIT ($3,100): A low-priced flier with a respectable floor, Winker posted a .398 on-base percentage against right-handed hurlers with Triple-A Louisville. The youngster has settled into the lineup and opens up room to spend elsewhere. As noted, it's a soft matchup against Chad Kuhl.
