DraftKings MLB: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Mike Clevinger, CLE at SF ($9,100): This is a great matchup for Clevinger, as the Giants own a league-worst .290 wOBA against righties. He enters with a high-end 27.5 strikeout percentage for the season and has allowed just five runs through 27 innings while over his past five starts. There's a strong possibility that Clevinger is a chalky play, though.

Sean Newcomb, ATL vs. CHC ($6,800): Chicago has won four consecutive games out of the All-Star break and scored 31 runs, so this is a potential letdown spot. Obviously, at this salary Newcomb carries significant risk, and especially with the Cubs sporting a .344 wOBA against southpaws for the campaign. However, Newcomb has flashed tremendous upside and boasts a solid 21.4 strikeout percentage and 3.48 FIP for the season.

CATCHER

James McCann, DET at KC ($2,700): This is a soft matchup for the Tigers with Travis Wood making just his second start over the past two seasons. Even with the majority of his work out of the bullpen, he's still allowed a .370 wOBA to right-handed hitters this year, and McCann sports a monster .428 mark against southpaws.

FIRST BASE

Matt Carpenter, STL at NYM ($4,000): With a soft matchup against Rafael Montero (.401 wOBA allowed to left-handed batters since 2015), Carpenter stands out at this salary. The veteran has long-standing success against righty arms with a .373 wOBA over the past four years, including a .391 on-base percentage this season.

SECOND BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE at SF ($4,600): Dating back to last season, Ramirez sports a .361 wOBA against lefties, and Ty Blach has surrendered a .493 slugging percentage and .349 wOBA to right-handed hitters. Considering Ramirez is also scorching hot with a 1.143 OPS through his past 25 games, his salary checks out as a discount.

THIRD BASE

Josh Donaldson, TOR at BOS ($4,700): Lefty Brian Johnson has allowed 2.5 HR/9 and a .376 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season, so this sets up as a slump-busting matchup for Donaldson. Despite his recent funk, he's still posted a solid .379 wOBA against southpaws this year.

SHORTSTOP

Didi Gregorius, NYY at MIN ($3,800): This salary jumps off the page, as Gregorius has posted a solid .350 wOBA against right-handed hurlers this season. Of course, the matchup is ripe with Bartolo Colon having allowed 30 runs through his past four starts and surrendering a .371 wOBA to left-handed hitters for the campaign.

OUTFIELD

Gerardo Parra, COL vs. SD ($4,600): Rookie Dinelson Lamet has shown flashes, but retiring left-handed hitters has been a huge struggle, and he's served up a .423 wOBA and 3.0 HR/9. Parra enters with a solid .364 wOBA for the season against righties, which skyrockets to a .435 mark at Coors Field, too.

J.D. Martinez, DET at KC ($4,300): Obviously, Martinez isn't going to maintain the .650 wOBA he's posted against lefties this season. However, with a .413 mark dating back to the beginning of 2015, smashing southpaws is nothing new for the outfielder. As noted, Travis Wood is sets up as a favorable matchup, too.

Lorenzo Cain, KC vs. DET ($3,600): After posting a .409 wOBA over the prior two seasons, Cain owns a .279 mark this year. At this price, taking a flier on some positive regression for Cain is in play, and especially with Matt Boyd allowed a .387 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season.
