Wednesday's DFS action starts at 3:10 p.m. EDT with an early-only slate consisting of four games, including an always interesting Coors Field game. The main slate of games starts at the usual 7:05 p.m. EDT and features 10 games.
Pitchers
Dinelson Lamet, SD at LAA ($9,300): With no Coors game on the main slate, it makes sense to spend up on pitching. However, Max Scherzer ($11,200) has a horrible matchup against a Phillies team that strikes out at a lower rate to right-handed pitching than anyone else, and Zac Gallen ($10,200) is at the Dodgers, who own the highest wOBA (.363) against right-handed pitching. Enter Lamet, who doesn't have a great matchup at the Angels but at least it's better than the previous two. Lamet has better on the road (2.92 ERA), allowing a .285 wOBA to opposing hitters. His worst game this season was a 20 fantasy point effort, and he has 36 fantasy points in five of his other six starts, demonstrating a nice floor.
Jordan Montgomery, NYY vs. TB ($7,100): This is a nice price for Montgomery, who outside of a disastrous start in Philadelphia has scored 20, 27, 31 and 32 fantasy points in his other four starts. Montgomery has a few factors working in his favor in this particular matchup. First, he has pitched better at home than on the road with a 3.39 ERA (.277 wOBA allowed). The Rays also strike out 26.1 percent of the time against left-handed pitching, the fifth-highest mark in baseball. There's upside here, well over 30 fantasy points, if Montgomery's on his game.
Top Targets
Christian Yelich, MIL vs. DET ($4,100): This seems like the perfect time to use Yelich, who is flying under the radar batting .197 this season. He's at home and against a weak right-handed pitcher which is the perfect formula for rostering him. Yelich had a massive .492 wOBA at home against right-handed pitching last season, one of the highest splits you'll ever find for a batter with 182 plate appearances.
George Springer, HOU vs. TEX ($3,500): Like Yelich, Springer's .209 batting average may have people overlooking him tonight despite a good matchup. Springer has a career .384 wOBA against southpaws and gets to face Kolby Allard at home. Allard, in his brief career, has allowed a .335 wOBA to right-handed hitters.
Value Bats
Javier Baez, CHC at PIT ($3,200): While this isn't the cheapest salary, it seems like Baez in the past couple of seasons has been around $4,000 when he's facing a lefty. Derek Holland has been an enigma this season, as evidenced by his last start in which he gave up eight earned runs but also struck out eight batters. Baez owns a career .369 wOBA, thanks to last season's .391 mark.
Eddie Rosario, MIN vs. CHW ($2,900): Max Kepler ($3,000) could easily be in this spot also with a lefty-vs-righty matchup against Reynaldo Lopez. Rosario gets the nod over Kepler due to hitting in the cleanup spot, as he's taken advantage of hitting with runners in scoring position to pile up 23 RBI this season. Rosario has a career .338 wOBA against right-handed pitching while Lopez has allowed a .364 wOBA to left-handed hitters last season.
Stacks To Consider
Cubs vs. Holland: Baez, Willson Contreras ($2,800), Jose Martinez ($2,500), Kris Bryant ($3,000)
Check to make sure Bryant is in the lineup before using him, but like the other three he rakes against left-handed pitching. Contreras has a career .367 wOBA against lefties while newly acquired Martinez has a career .398 wOBA against that handedness. Holland has given up eight, nine and four earned runs in three of his six starts.
Astros vs. Allard: Springer, Jose Altuve ($3,200), Carlos Correa ($3,000), Yuli Gurriel ($2,900)
It's been a tough season so far for Houston, but they're a great team to get exposure to against left-handed pitching. The case for Springer has been made, while Altuve, Correa and Gurriel all have a career .341 wOBA or better against left-handed pitching.
