FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Johnny Cueto, SFG at SDP ($10,900): No reason to go against the grain with the pitching tonight. The over/under is sitting at 6.5 with the Giants favored by 50 points. The Padres rank last in offensive production against right-handed pitching with a 71 wRC+ and 25.2 percent K-rate and a measly 6.6 percent BB-rate. Cueto has had a couple of stumbles, but on the year as a whole has managed a 3.08 xFIP and sub-3.00 ERA. He faced this Padres squad a few weeks ago and managed an 11-strikeout, nine-inning shutout. Cueto has also gone at least seven innings in every game except one this season.

Catcher

Brian McCann, NYY at ARI ($3,200): Shelby Miller's xFIP against lefties this season stands at 7.19, so the Yankees' lefties are in for a fruitful night. McCann, with a 121 wRC+, actually has indicators that his stats will regress some in the coming weeks with a large K-rate and high soft-batted ball percentage, but the matchup against Miller is too good to fade.

First Base

Adam Lind, SEA at BAL ($2,400): It's been a rough season for Lind, but the fact remains that his lefty/righty splits are extreme and with a career 127 wRC+ and .212 ISO against righties, he is firmly in play at a discount against a pitcher like Chris Tillman who has a career xFIP against lefties of over 4.00. There are also some indications that Lind is coming around with a .415 wOBA and 173 wRC+ over the past week.

Second Base

Chase Utley, LAD at LAA ($2,900): The Dodgers on the whole have struggled offensively this season, but Utley has recovered his hitting after a .212 average last year. This season he's sporting a wRC+ of 123 with an average of .285. Nick Tropeano's xFIP sits at a mediocre 4.99 and in seven starts this season he has never once even reached six full innings. Tropeano's xFIP against lefties also sits at an inflated 5.11.

Third Base

Eugenio Suarez, CIN vs. CLE ($2,800): Despite missing some time, Suarez is showing himself as being very comfortable within the confines of Great American Ballpark already with eight home runs on the season. The wRC+ sits just below average at 98, but with a .193 ISO and BABIP 40 points below his career average there is certainly upside. Mike Clevinger is making his first MLB start this evening, and despite good minor league numbers it is yet to be seen how he'll perform against major league bats in a hitter-friendly park.

Shortstop

Corey Seager, LAD at LAA ($4,100): Now with seven home runs on the season, Seager has moved his wRC+ up to 129 and ISO to .219. The power numbers appear to be legitimate and after 22 homers at AA, AAA and MLB last season; the 22-year-old mega-prospect projects to have an extremely productive season hitting for both high average and considerable power. The lefty on right matchup against Tropeano is plus as well.

Outfield

Brett Gardner, NYY at ARI ($3,300): Gardner, as opposed to McCann, may actually be in for an uptick in production as his BABIP sits over 40 points lower than his career mark. His wRC+ still sits at a productive 110, and as one of the Yankees' lefties he'll be able to exploit Miller's deficiencies against them.

Matt Holliday, STL vs. COL ($2,600): Given his desirable position in the order against Chris Rusin, this is a very cheap price on Holliday. His season ISO sits at .233 and he's managed a 112 wRC+ despite a BABIP over 80 points below his career number. Holliday is both in a good matchup and figures to only bring his overall stats up as the season progresses.

Rajai Davis, CLE at CIN ($2,900): Davis has a considerably better career wRC+ against lefties, 116, than against righties, 77. This matched with the possibility that he could lead off and that he steals bases at nearly as high a rate against lefties as righties, makes Davis a considerable value.
