Closer Watch

Cincinnati – Aroldis Chapman (dead arm) says he think he'll be ready to return in "a few days." Until that happens, expect Jonathan Broxton to see any save opportunities that arise before returning to his setup role.

Houston – Wilton Lopez pitched a scoreless ninth inning Thursday to earn the save against the Phillies. It was just his fifth of the season, as the Astros have given him few opportunities since he ascended into the closer's role.

Kansas City – Greg Holland blew the save in the ninth inning of Thursday's game at Minnesota, allowing a solo homer to Trevor Plouffe. It was his first blown save since he officially took over the closer role.

Texas – Joe Nathan suffered an ugly blown save Thursday against Cleveland, giving up three runs and four hits while failing to retire a batter. It was his first blown save since April 11. He wasn't available Friday after pitching three days in a row, but will be available for ninth inning duties Saturday.

Recommended Pickup

Jed Lowrie, SS, HOU – Though it likely went largely unnoticed with the Astros on the precipice of historical ineptitude, Lowrie was activated from the disabled list Wednesday. While he did miss nearly two months with the ankle injury, he was one of the more productive players at the shortstop position prior to going down, maintaining a season line of .253/.343/.457 with 14 homers and 38 RBI. The Astros say he'll only be used roughly every other game right away until he proves he's 100 percent recovered from his ankle injury, but early returns appear promising. He delivered a key two-run double in his only at-bat in Thursday's win over the Phillies. If you have a bench spot available, he's worth stashing for the short-term before he proves himself capable of handling everyday duties at shortstop for the Astros, and perhaps, your fantasy lineup.

Other Recent Recommendations:Logan Forsythe, Andy Pettitte, Donovan Solano, Andrelton Simmons and Chris Parmelee
