Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

It's an interesting Saturday night slate that only features one pitcher priced higher than $50 in Corey Kluber ($54). The best thing is that he doesn't have to be used because a lot of the cheaper pitchers can be just as good. I found a couple in good spots along with a slew of medium-priced power bats.

PITCHER

James Paxton, SEA vs. TOR ($49): Paxton is expensive, but not too expensive. He also returned to form last start, carving the Astros for eight strikeouts and only three hits allowed. The Blue Jays aren't as good as Astros and have a 22.1 K% and .318 wOBA against southpaws in the last month. Paxton also no-hit the Blue Jays in May.

Edwin Jackson, OAK vs. DET ($33):
This might be too much of a gamble, but Jackson is a decent favorite against a team that isn't hitting much. Jackson has at least 20 fantasy points in two of his last three starts and reached 24.6 points against the Tigers a little more than a month ago. Detroit's been miserable in the last month against righties with a 23.9 K%, .126 ISO and .258 wOBA.

CATCHER

Francisco Cervelli, PIT vs. STL ($12): Cervelli's been a bit inconsistent this year, but that's in limited appearances and he has a solid career .351 wOBA against southpaws. Three homers in only 46 at-bats against lefties is also enticing. Austin Gomber has just one prior start and it was decent, allowing two runs in 6.1 innings against the Reds. However, he's still an unknown in the majors and has a 4.78 xFIP in relief appearances this year.

FIRST BASE

Matt Olson, OAK vs. DET ($15): Olson is mainly a power bat who doesn't cost a ton with 18 homers and a .348 wOBA against righty arms. Jordan Zimmermann has a few good starts, but has given up 13 runs in his last three outings and a 1.72 HR/9 against lefties won't help against Oakland.

SECOND BASE

Jed Lowrie, OAK vs. DET ($16): Here's another bat to use against Zimmermann with slightly more consistency and less power. Lowrie still has 14 homers against righties with a .367 wOBA. Zimmermann is pitching closer to his 2017 levels when he had a poor .376 wOBA allowed to lefty bats.

THIRD BASE

Jurickson Profar, TEX vs. BAL ($15): Profar turned up his bat in July and that translated into a homer and four RBIs in his only August appearance. He has 27 extra-base hits (9 HR) and a mediocre .330 wOBA against righties. Dylan Bundy looked better last outing, yet still allowed three runs and has done so in each of his last four starts. Bundy is also the underdog in a game with an over/under of 10.5 runs.

SHORTSTOP

Tim Beckham, BAL at TEX ($12): Beckham hasn't played a full season, but he's been one of Baltimore's better bats with a .333 BABIP against southpaws, which is in the range of his career .329 wOBA. Mike Minor probably won't stop that even with some better recent outings, as he has a .342 wOBA allowed to righties

OUTFIELD

Mitch Haniger, SEA vs. TOR ($16): Most of Haniger's power comes against righties with 16 home runs and a .342 wOBA, so this is a perfect spot for him. Marco Estrada is conveniently worse against righty bats with a .363 wOBA allowed and troubling 1.84 HR/9.

Eddie Rosario, MIN vs. KC ($16):
Rosario hasn't shown much power since June, but it's hard to deny 16 homers and a .380 wOBA against righty arms, especially for his price. Throw in Burch Smith on the mound and Rosario's turnaround could happen. Smith has been fine in limited starts, but a 1.90 HR/9 against lefties isn't good.

Leonys Martin, CLE vs. LAA ($9):
Martin is a bit underrated on the Indians with 20 extra-base hits and a .351 OBP against righties, and that includes a couple weeks spent getting back to form after injury. Felix Pena had a few good starts, but only had one out last start against the Mariners and has a .349 wOBA allowed to lefties in 33 career innings.
