Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

We have a packed schedule across baseball on Tuesday, but only seven games will make up the main slate on Yahoo, which kicks off at 8:05 p.m. EDT. With that in mind, here are some of the players worth considering for your entry.

Pitchers

After getting hammered in his season debut against the Twins, Lucas Giolito ($47) has rebounded to allow two runs or fewer in four of his last five starts. He's recorded at least nine strikeouts in three of his last four outings, which included a 13-strikeout performance against the Tigers in his last start. He has the potential for another dominant performance, this time against a Pirates team that has the second-lowest OPS (.645) in baseball.

Adam Wainwright ($40) was once a star with the Cardinals, but he's fallen off the last few years. His issue has been keeping men off base, which has left him with a WHIP of at least 1.40 in each of the last four seasons. He has made some strides in that area across his first three outings of 2020, issuing only 15 base runners across 18 innings. He has been aided a bit by a .189 BABIP allowed, so don't be surprised to see his WHIP increase as the seasons moves along. With that being said, this is still a great matchup for him against the Royals, who have only averaged 3.9 runs a game.

Top Targets

Fernando Tatis Jr. ($27) is making a legitimate case to be the NL MVP through the first half of the season. He already has 12 home runs on his way to a .364 ISO and his wOBA checks in at a lofty .442. He also had a .510 wOBA against left-handed pitchers last season, which could spell doom for Marco Gonzales ($35) and the Mariners.

Has Cody Bellinger ($17) finally broken out of his slump? It certainly looks that way considering he is 7-for-17 with four home runs and a double during his current five-game hitting streak. His strikeout rate is only 16.5 percent for the season, which is right in line with his mark from his breakout 2019 campaign. He'll look to keep things rolling against Johnny Cueto ($28), who hasn't missed many bats this season considering his strikeout rate stands at 21.1 percent.

Bargain Bats

The A's are scheduled to start Sean Manaea ($33) against the Rangers, and he's had a rough start to the season. His WHIP comes in at 1.46, mainly because he's allowed 32 hits across 25.1 innings. His struggles could make this the opportune time to take a chance on Todd Frazier ($12), who is one of the few hitters on the Rangers that isn't having a terrible season. He also hits left-handed pitching well, posting a wOBA of at least .367 against them in two of the last three seasons.

The Rockies' are shorthanded right now with David Dahl (back) on the IL and Charlie Blackmon (quadricep) being listed as day-to-day. That means that they will have to continue to rely on Matt Kemp ($10), especially against left-handed pitching considering his career .384 wOBA against them. With southpaw Alex Young ($31) set to start this matchup for the Diamondbacks, look for Kemp to be in the lineup and potentially provide value.

Stacks to Consider

Cardinals vs. Matt Harvey ($25), Royals: Paul Goldschmidt ($21), Tommy Edman ($15), Dylan Carlson ($13)

The Royals are dealing with injuries to their starting rotation, which has forced them to take a chance on Harvey. His first start didn't go well, as he allowed three runs across three innings against the Reds. He gave up two home runs in that contest, which has been a problem for him considering he allowed 40 home runs across 214.2 innings the last two seasons. This could be a great opportunity to roll with Goldschmidt, who had three hits in the series opener Monday and now has a 1.068 OPS for the season.

White Sox vs. Steven Brault ($26), Pirates: Jose Abreu ($24), Luis Robert ($18), Yoan Moncada ($17)

After a busy offseason, the White Sox have built a potent lineup that has the second-highest OPS (.807) in baseball. Abreu has been spectacular with a 179 wRC+ and could be a tough out for Brault given his career 150 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers. Robert has been a strikeout machine with his 36.4 percent strikeout rate, but he's also brought plenty of power along with it given his .276 ISO. His hard-hit rate has also been excellent at 46.7 percent.

Athletics vs. Kyle Gibson ($28), Rangers: Matt Chapman ($19), Matt Olson ($19), Marcus Semien ($13)

Gibson is usually someone to attack in DFS since he has a 1.41 WHIP for his career. This season has been no different for him in terms of having problems keeping men off base, leaving him with a 1.54 WHIP across five starts. Olson is off to a rough start in terms of his batting average, but his walk rate has increased significantly and he has a .264 ISO. Chapman has been even more potent in the power department with a .328 ISO.
