Yahoo DFS Basketball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

The NBA bounces back from a quiet Tuesday with 13 games on the schedule Wednesday. The Bulls will be in action again, trying to snap their four-game losing streak against the Cavaliers. The Lakers will look to build on a big win against the Jazz on Monday when they face the Pacers, who will be without for Myles Turner (foot) for multiple weeks.

As far as the headline game of the night goes, that billing goes to the Bucks hosting the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are among the hottest teams in the league, winning 12 of their last 13 games.

Let's get down to business and highlight some players to consider for your Yahoo lineups, as well as some to potentially avoid.

GUARDS

James Harden, BKN at WAS ($51): Harden already has a tremendously high floor with his ability to contribute in multiple areas, but with Kevin Durant (knee) out, he is even more appealing in DFS. He's recorded a double-double in four of his last five games and could be a triple-double threat on a nightly basis moving forward. Also working in his favor in this matchup is that the Wizards have the 10th-worst defensive rating in the league.

De'Anthony Melton, MEM at MIL ($13): The big news surrounding the Grizzlies is that Desmond Bane and Kyle Anderson were placed in the health and safety protocols Tuesday. Melton has often had a difficult time getting consistent playing time, but the Grizzlies might be forced to play him a lot in this matchup. Across five games in which he has played at least 30 minutes, he averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.6 three-pointers.

Guard to Avoid

CJ McCollum, POR at MIA ($32): McCollum made his return from a collapsed lung Monday, scoring 16 points in a victory over the Magic. He was understandably eased back into action, playing just 28 minutes. He could remain limited in this game, and he already has a tough matchup against a good defensive team in the Heat, so it might be best to keep him out of your lineup.

FORWARDS

Jimmy Butler, MIA vs. POR ($41): The Heat will be without Kyle Lowry (personal) for their second straight game, leaving them without their best passer. His scoring numbers aren't great, but he's averaged a robust 8.3 assists per game. With him out Monday, Butler dished out 10 assists while posting a triple-double. Add his expanded role to the Trail Blazers having the second-worst defensive rating in the league and Butler might be too good to pass up.

John Konchar, MEM at MIL ($12): A quick glance at his season averages of 4.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game doesn't exactly instill a lot of confidence in Konchar for DFS. However, with Anderson and Bane out, he could be primed for added minutes. He's shown upside when given an expanded role, like when he posted 15 points and 17 rebounds across 30 minutes against the Timberwolves last week. At his cheap salary, he could be worth the risk in tournament play.

Forward to Avoid

Jae'Sean Tate, HOU at UTA ($23): There are a lot of appealing players with high salaries and really cheap salaries, so if you're going to go with a mid-tier option, they need to hit. Adding one in the mid-tier range will limit how many top-tier options that you can fit into your budget, so if they don't hit value, you could be fighting an uphill battle. Tate has been too inconsistent, scoring 26.4 Yahoo points or fewer in three of his last five games.

CENTERS

Nikola Jokic, DEN vs. LAC ($56): Jokic owns the Clippers. Across three games against them last season, he averaged 22.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists. Across two meetings this season, he's averaged 23.5 points, 17.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists. The Clippers have allowed the sixth-most rebounds per game, so expect them to continue to have problems slowing him down.

Precious Achiuwa, TOR at DAL ($13): With Khem Birch (nose) out for at least 10 days, Achiuwa has stepped back into the starting five. Across the last two games in that role, he scored 39.0 and 31.5 Yahoo points, respectively. The Mavericks aren't exactly loaded with talent at the center spot, so Achiuwa is appealing if you want to fade Jokic.

Center to Avoid

Omer Yurtseven, MIA vs. POR ($24): Yurtseven was excellent when Bam Adebayo was out. He averaged 31 minutes across 10 games as a starter, producing averages of 13.6 points, 13.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists, while shooting 54.5 percent from the field. The problem is, he didn't play at all when Adebayo returned Monday. Even Dewayne Dedmon is apparently back to being ahead of him in the rotation considering he logged 16 minutes in that game. As sad as it might be considering how well he played, Yurtseven isn't relevant in DFS right now.
