DraftKings CFL: Week 6 Cheat Sheet

DraftKings CFL: Week 6 Cheat Sheet

This article is part of our DraftKings CFL DFS Picks series.

We have a quick turnaround for Week 6, as the slate kicks off Friday night after the Week 5 ledger just concluded Monday night. The CFL packs three games into Saturday in deference to the NFL's Week 1 on Sunday, and the ledger consists of four rematches between teams that played either last week or two games ago. That always sets up interestingly for DFS purposes, a theme we'll explore further throughout this week's article.

DraftKings CFL Plays- Week 6

Quarterback

Trevor Harris, EDM vs. CGY ($9,900): Harris came through in remarkable fashion as a recommendation in Week 5, ripping up the Calgary secondary for 398 yards and four touchdowns on the way to a season-best 36.3 DK points. The veteran signal-caller completed an outstanding 75.6 percent of his throws and pushed his season average to 20.3 DK points in the process. He gets another crack at Calgary on Saturday night and at home to boot, and the Stamps check in surrendering a CFL-high 319.6 passing yards per game while also allowing the most completions of more than 30 yards (10) through the first five weeks of the season.

Mike Reilly, BC vs. OTT ($8,900): The man that used to occupy Harris' current spot in Edmonton is in a pretty good matchup in his own right Saturday night, as Reilly will get a second chance at a Redblacks defense that's about as bad as the Stampeders' and that he already burned for a season-best 27.0 DK points in Week 4. Reilly cracked 300 yards for the second time this season in that contest and has now completed over 70.0 percent of his passes in three of four games. Ottawa has also allowed the second-most passing yards per game (310.8), highest average yards per pass (9.3) and highest passing efficiency rating (108.5), furthering Reilly's case.

Nick Arbuckle ($8,300) or McLeod Bethel-Thompson ($7,700), TOR vs. HAM: It remains to be seen which QB will get the starting call in the Friday night rematch against the Tiger-Cats, as Bethel-Thompson was effective in relief of Arbuckle late in the Week 5 loss, albeit against a prevent defense. Arbuckle struggled with a pair of picks and just 207 passing yards after having racked up 310 in his last contest in Week 3, but he has the talent to bounce back if called upon despite a stingy Hamilton secondary due to his talented group of pass catchers that could have Ricky Collins back in its ranks after he missed the Week 5 contest due to COVID-19 protocols.

Running Back

James Wilder, EDM vs. CGY ($9,300): Wilder parlayed his usual high-volume role into another solid fantasy performance in Week 5 against the Stampeders, posting 18.1 DK points on 16 total touches. The veteran running back accomplished that tally despite logging his fewest carries in any game this season, but he could well be back to his usual rushing volume in the Week 6 rematch. The Stamps' vulnerabilities against the pass include the second-most completions allowed (119), and they're also surrendering 96.4 rushing yards per game at 5.1 yards per carry.

Andrew Harris, WPG vs. SSK ($9,000): Harris has dispelled any doubts about the health of his previously ailing calf with his performances over the first two games, which have included tallies of 16.6 and 14.2 DK points. The latter figure came in Week 5 against the same Roughriders team he'll see Saturday afternoon, with Harris compiling 95 rushing yards at 5.3 yards per attempt and adding a 2-27 line through the air. The veteran back already has 39 total touches through his first pair of contests and is therefore once again in play due to his locked-in volume.

Shaq Cooper, BC vs. OTT ($7,800): Cooper started to flash some of his trademark efficiency in Week 4 against this same Redblacks team, needing just 14 carries to net 71 rushing yards. Cooper is already averaging over 5.0 yards per carry for the season, and he hasn't yet started to scratch the surface of his potential as a receiver. That could change in the Week 6 rematch versus Ottawa, which has allowed a CFL-high 117.8 rushing yards per game, 5.2 yards per carry and the second-most rushing first downs (29).

ALSO CONSIDER: Ka'Deem Carey, CGY at EDM ($8,400)

Wide Receiver/Slotback

Derel Walker, EDM vs. CGY ($9,300): Walker was one of the beneficiaries of Harris' big day against the Stamps in Week 5, with the speedy veteran posting a 6-94 line that netted 15.4 DK points. That total reversed a two-game downward trend in fantasy points for Walker, who has all the talent to finally put together his first true breakout game of 2021 in Week 6. Calgary's multitude of troublesome metrics against the pass were already detailed in both Harris' and Wilder's entries, and Walker brings a fantasy-point ceiling well north of 20 DK points when he's on and logs the amount of targets he typically does.

Lucky Whitehead, BC vs. OTT ($7,500): Much like Walker, Whitehead has the explosiveness to outperform his salary on any given week. Whitehead already broke out for one such effort this season, posting 27.6 DK points against the Roughriders on the strength of a 5-136-1 line. He also crossed the 20-DK-point threshold in Week 2 against the Stamps and put together a solid 6-64 tally versus this same Redblacks squad in Week 4. The Redblacks check in having allowed the third-most completions (104) and highest completion percentage (77.6) through the first five weeks while also tying for the second-most completions of over 30 yards allowed (eight), boosting Whitehead's prospects.

Kamar Jorden, CGY at EDM ($7,000): Jorden has left no doubt that the serious knee injury he suffered back in the 2018 season is completely past him, as he's opened the season with a 25-357-2 line over the first five games. Those numbers are partly comprised of a season-best 9-123 line that netted 24.3 DK points in Week 5 against these same Elks, and he also has tallies of 19.5 and 14.7 DK points in two other contests. Jorden should once again be a heavy target of either Jake Maier or Bo Levi Mitchell, giving him a chance to make his reasonable salary worth the investment despite the tough matchup on paper against the Edmonton defense.

Tim White, HAM at TOR ($4,700): White has quickly taken to the CFL game, averaging 12.8 DK points and generating a season-best 6-93-1 line in Week 5 versus these same Argonauts. The former Ravens wideout brings impressive speed to the table and is going to once again be on the attack against a vulnerable Toronto secondary that's given up the third-highest completion percentage (68.6) and passer efficiency rating (97.5) while also yielding the second-most completions of over 30 yards (eight). With a salary he can easily outperform, White could turn out to be one of the better value options at receiver on the slate.

ALSO CONSIDER: Mike Jones, EDM vs. CGY ($6,100)

Team Defense

BC Lions vs. Ottawa Redblacks ($4,400):  Consistently targeting defenses against the Redblacks has worked well thus far this season, so we'll continue that practice in Week 6. BC is a solid defense by any metric anyhow, as the Lions average 10.0 DK points per game. That number has partly been built at the expense of the Redblacks, however, as BC posted 12.0 DK points against Ottawa in Week 4 on the road. BC also has a total of 16.0 DK points in another game this season (vs. the Stampeders) and the Redblacks come in averaging the fewest passing yards (191.8) and rushing yards (71.0) per game while also allowing the second-most sacks (15) and committing the second-most two-and-outs (27). Meanwhile, BC has recorded the second-most turnovers (12), including the most interceptions (seven).
