Fifth-year option picked up
General manager Joe Schoen said Thursday that the Giants will pick up Thibodeaux's fifth-year option, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Thibodeaux will be with the Giants through the 2026 season and will collect $14.75 million in the fifth year of his rookie deal. The 2022 first-round pick missed five games in 2024 due to a wrist injury and finished the regular season with 28 tackles (14 solo), including 5.5 sacks, two pass defenses and one forced fumble in 12 games. Thibodeaux will be part of a formidable defensive front consisting of Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence (elbow) and 2025 third-overall pick Abdul Carter (foot).

In his sophomore campaign, Thibodeaux fulfilled the promise the Giants saw in him when they drafted him fifth overall in 2022, as he tied for 12th in the NFL with 11.5 sacks. He did sputter out a bit late in the campaign - he had only a half sack over five games following the team's Week 13 bye - but the overall picture he painted was of a potentially dominant pass rusher for years to come. New York's addition of Brian Burns via trade in the offseason should improve Thibodeaux's outlook further, as opponents will have a harder time double-teaming him with Burns now in the fold.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Viable trade candidate?
The Giants would do well to trade Thibodeaux before the start of the regular season, Aaron Schatz of ESPN.com opines.
ANALYSIS
Schatz begins to make his case by noting New York now has three starting-quality edge rushers after the addition of third overall pick Abdul Carter in April's draft alongside Brian Burns and Thibodeaux. He adds that Thibodeaux will be due for an extension after the coming season, but a likely impasse looms considering the Giants won't want to pay the going rate for premium edge rushers if the 2022 first-round pick spends the campaign in a rotational role. As such, the best course of action for New York could be potentially garnering a Day 2 pick from a contender for Thibodeaux, who has 126 total tackles, including 21.0 sacks, 11 defensed passes, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries across his first 43 career regular-season games.
