Signed to active roster
RBArizona Cardinals
November 21, 2025
The Cardinals signed Jefferson to their active roster Friday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not a good sign for Trey Benson (knee) being activated from injured reserve this week, though the Cardinals also have other injury concerns in the backfield, with Emari Demercado (ankle) ruled out and Bam Knight expected to play through an ankle injury of his own. Jefferson has been with Arizona's practice squad since the beginning of October, but he won't necessarily get touches even if he's active Sunday against the Jaguars.

This Week's Opposing Pass Defense
How does the Buccaneers pass defense compare to other NFL teams this season?
The bars represents the team's percentile rank (based on QB Rating Against). The longer the bar, the better their pass defense is. The team and position group ratings only include players that are currently on the roster and not on injured reserve. The list of players in the table only includes defenders with at least 3 attempts against them.

Jefferson's rookie year couldn't have gone much worse. Not only was he passed on the depth chart by converted safety Godwin Igwebuike and Kutztown State product Craig Reynolds, but he eventually missed out on a chance to see a large role on the big stage when both D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams missed time towards the end of the year. However, Jefferson has reportedly made significant progress during his first professional offseason training program. With an impressive preseason, he could work his way back up the depth chart.
Despite a solid college career at Oregon State, Jefferson fell to the Lions in the seventh round and may not get much of a chance to win a significant role as a rookie. A physical runner with NFL size who likes to batter his way through would-be tacklers, Jefferson is at his best when he can wear down the opposition over four quarters, but he does possess the vision and elusiveness to avoid contact when necessary. He also showed flashes of a three-down skill set, proving to be adequate as a pass catcher and a willing pass protector. Jefferson is joining a backfield that already has three-down options ahead of him in D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, however, and while Detroit did part ways with Kerryon Johnson after selecting Jefferson, the next two rungs on the ladder figure to be a lot tougher to climb. There is a chance he could emerge as a short-yardage option as a rookie, but Jefferson will probably need injuries ahead of him on the depth chart to really make an impact.
