Dugger followed up his breakout 2022 season with a consistent 2023 campaign that saw him emerge as the clear leader of New England's secondary and one of the top players on the defensive unit. In addition to a higher volume of snaps, Dugger also saw his role change from primarily playing in the slot and box to a more traditional free safety role. The end result was largely the same, as he picked off multiple passes for the third straight year and averaged over 6.0 tackles per game. Dugger is now cemented as an every-down player, signified by the four-year, $58 million extension he earned this offseason. He may not be destined for a significant step forward, but he'll contribute solidly on a weekly basis.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might be on move
Dugger may not be guaranteed a spot on the Patriots' season-opening roster, Ben Volin of The Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran safety will make a guaranteed $9.75 million in 2025, but if New England can find a trade partner, Dugger could be shipped out before Week 1. The team may even be willing to release him and swallow most of that cap hit, especially after moving him to the second-team defense during Sunday's practice. Dugger recorded 81 tackles over 13 regular-season games in 2024, and if he were to be cut loose, the 29-year-old likely wouldn't be out of work for long.
