Americans may still be bringing leftover turkey in for lunch at work today, but the holidays are over. Now, the NHL can have your full attention! There are five games on the docket for Monday, and here are some recommendations to consider for your daily fantasy lineup.
GOALIE
Jimmy Howard, DET vs. CLM ($6,900): The Red Wings and Blue Jackets have both played good hockey recently, as the Wings are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games while the Jackets are 6-2-2. Howard has been playing great this season with a 2.55 GAA and .925 save percentage. Columbus has a really good offense, but it's hard to resist Howard at this price.
CENTER
Mika Zibanejad, NYR vs. OTT ($6,300): It's been a few games since Zibanejad has scored a goal, but he still has seven of them on the season to go with 12 assists. He's also put 84 shots on net in 24 games, so he's doing his best to light the lamp. That could definitely happen in this matchup given the Senators' woeful 4.35 team GAA.
Mathew Barzal, NYI vs. WAS ($5,100): Barzal hasn't been scoring much this year, as he only has three goals, but he's notched 17 assists through 22 games. Nine of those helpers have come on the power play, where he's averaged a robust 3:41. The Capitals have the 24th-ranked penalty kill, so perhaps Barzal can take advantage of that.
WING
Evgenii Dadonov, FLA vs. NJD ($6,300): Last year, Dadonov returned from Russia to score 28 goals and 65 points. This season, he's on an even better pace with nine goals and 20 points through 21 games. The Devils are on the road for the second of a back-to-back (even if they are only traveling from Tampa). Keith Kinkaid will be getting the start, and he has a 3.15 GAA and .903 save percentage in his last 14 outings.
Ryan Dzingel, OTT at NYR ($5,600): Dzingel has started 51.6 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest among Ottawa's regular forwards. He's notched 10 goals on 50 shots this season, and in his last 10 games he's tallied nine points. The Rangers have a middling 3.08 GAA but have given up 33.4 shots on net per contest. They also have the 21st-ranked penalty kill.
Filip Chytil, NYR vs. OTT ($4,000): The 19-year-old Chytil came into the season with some prospect sheen, and he's shown why recently. He's scored five goals in his last seven games, and he's now skating on New York's top line. As previously noted, the Senators have a league-high 4.35 GAA. On top of that, they've allowed a whopping 38.6 shots on goal on average.
DEFENSE
Damon Severson, NJD at FLA ($4,900): Severson has six points in his last eight games, giving him 14 points in 22 games on the season. Roberto Luongo is hurt, which likely means that James Reimer will be in net. Reimer has a 3.43 GAA and .894 save percentage.
Kevin Shattenkirk, NYR vs. OTT ($4,600): Shattenkirk has perhaps not put up the numbers owners had hoped for yet, but his 2.2 shooting percentage should improve. Plus, he's started 55.8 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Rangers, which should help. What will definitely help is a matchup with the Senators. In addition to ranking last in team GAA and shots allowed per game, Ottawa has the worst penalty kill in the league.
