NHL Betting Overview Saturday Night Key Odds Insights

New York Rangers at Columbus Blue Jackets

The Rangers (9-7-2) and Blue Jackets (9-7-1) meet at Nationwide Arena in Columbus at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

For New York, it's been a strange season. At Madison Square Garden, the Rangers are 1-6-1 in eight games, while they're 8-1-1 in 10 games on the road. New York has a total of 12 goals in eight home games, or 1.5 goals per game (GPG), including five shutout losses. On the road, though, the Rangers have 36 goals across the 10 games, or 3.6 GPG. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but when New York is on the road, you have to trust it.

These teams met four times last season, with New York winning three of the meetings, while going 7-3 in the past 10 in the series since March 28, 2023.

The Blue Jackets topped the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 on Thursday night, and they've scored 14 goals in the past four games, or 3.5 GPG. The Jackets have allowed four or more goals in four of the past five outings, too, and the Over is 3-1-1 in that five-game span.

Igor Shesterkin (6-6-2, 2.50 GAA, .909 SV%, 1 SO) is expected to start for the Rangers, and he is 5-1-0 with a 2.25 GAA and .918 SV% with his only shutout in seven road starts.

For the Blue Jackets, Jet Greaves (5-4-1, 3.00 GAA, .897 SV%) is expected to make his fourth straight start. He looks like he has unofficially snaked the No. 1 job from Elvis Merzlikins (4-3-0, 3.14, .908 SV%).

Let's roll with the red-hot Rangers, at least red-hot on the road, and we'll go high on the total, as Columbus has cashed high at a 6-3-1 clip in the past 10 games. The Rangers have scored plenty -- and allowed plenty -- away from home.

  • Over 6 Goals (-120 at BetMGM)

Vegas Golden Knights at St. Louis Blues

The Golden Knights (7-4-5) meet the Blues (6-8-4) at Enterprise Center in St. Louis for the first time this season.

Last season, Vegas won two of three meetings, while the Blues won 5-4 in a shootout in one of the two meetings in Las Vegas. On Jan. 23, the Golden Knights won their only visit to St. Louis, doubling up the Blues 4-2 as moderate (-150) favorites as the total (6) pushed at most shops.

While Vegas is 3-1-2 in six games on the road this season, the Golden Knights have been scuffling lately. It is 0-2-2 in the past four games, picking up just two out of a possible eight points, while the Over is 3-1 in the span. That's because VGK has yielded 17 goals, or 4.3 GPG, in the four-game stretch.

After a solid stretch initially, filling in for the injured Adin Hill (lower body), Akira Schmid (6-1-2, 2.67 GAA, .894 SV%, 1 SO) has regressed to the mean a little. He has allowed eight goals in his past two starts, both OTLs, and he has allowed three or more goals in his past five appearances.

Jordan Binnington (4-5-3, 3.34 GAA, .869 SV%) allowed five goals in a 6-5 SOL last time out against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night, so with no rest, Joel Hofer (2-3-1, 4.04 GAA, .865 SV%, 1 SO) is projected to go.

Goaltending has been a problem for the Blues. Let's back the Golden Knights to get the road win, and we'll side with the Over.

  • Over 5.5 Goals (-125 at Bet365 and Fanatics Sportsbooks)
