The National Hockey League (NHL) has five games on the schedule, with the International Series game at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. With the early puck drop, we aren't including that game, nor are we looking to the late-afternoon games, either. We'll focus on the 7 p.m. game between the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers on NHL Network, and the 8 p.m. game between the New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche on ESPN+.
We'll provide single plays and parlay opportunities you could potentially pair with the college football games, NBA action, and/or NCAA basketball. Good luck with all of your plays! Let's get started.

NHL Betting Overview Sunday Night Key Odds Insights
Detroit Red Wings
at New York Rangers
The Red Wings (10-7-1) and Rangers (10-7-2) meet in an Original Six clash on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden with a puck drop of 7 p.m. ET at NHL Network.
The Rangers picked up a 2-1 win in overtime against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, improving their record to 9-1-1 away from home. At MSG, that's where the trouble has started for the Blueshirts.
The splits are like nothing we've ever seen in the NHL. New York can't lose on the road, while it can barely score at home. The Rangers have scored 38 goals in 11 games, averaging 3.5 goals per game (GPG) on the road, but just 12 goals in eight games, with six of the goals coming in a 6-3 victory over the Nashville Predators last Monday night. The Rangers have already been shut out five times at home, too.
Igor Shesterkin stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced, while Mika Zibanejad netted a power-play goal in the second period, with helpers to Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox. In the shootout, Vincent Trocheck and J.T. Miller had goals in the shootout.
Jonathan Quick (3-1-0, 1.26 GAA, .950 SV%, 1 SO) is expected to start, as the Rangers play on no rest. He is unlikely to have Will Borgen (upper body) in front of him on defense. He missed Saturday's game in Columbus due to his UBI. Matthew Robertson drew in, posting a shot on goal, a blocked shot and a hit in 14:17 of ice time (TOI).
When playing on no rest, the Rangers are 0-2-0 this season, and both of those games are shutout losses, including a 1-0 hard-luck loss against the Washington Capitals on Oct. 12 with Quick in the crease.
These teams met Nov. 7 in Detroit with Quick in between the pipes. Will Cuylle scored a power-play goal, while Noah Laba had the go-ahead goal in the second period, and that stood up as the game-winning tally in the 4-1 win. Panarin and Alexis Lafreniere also scored goals. J.T. Compher scored the lone goal for the Red Wings, as Cam Talbot allowed the four goals on 26 shots.
Let's back the Red Wings, based on New York's horrible play at home and poor showings on no rest, and go low on the total.
- Red Wings ML (+130 at BetRivers, Caesars and DraftKings Sportsbooks)
- Under 6.5 Goals (-135 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

New York Islanders
at Colorado Avalanche
The Islanders (10-6-2) and the Avalanche (12-1-5) meet at Ball Arena in Denver at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
The Isles are making their fifth stop on a seven-game road trip, and New York is a perfect 4-for-4 so far, including overtime victories in each of the past three games. It picked up a 3-2 OTW against the Utah Mammoth as moderate underdogs (+190) as the Under (6.5) cashed. The Under is 3-1 in the past four games for the Isles.
The Avalanche doubled up the Buffalo Sabres 6-3 on Thursday, winning for the fifth consecutive game. Colorado has outscored the opposition 27-11 in the win streak, and it is 7-0-1 in the past eight games. Opposite of the Isles, the Over is 3-1 in the past four games.
The Isles surprised the Avs with a regular-season sweep last season, outscoring Colorado 11-4 with a pair of Over results, and the Over is 4-0 in the past four in the series, while going 7-1 in the previous eight encounters.
Based on New York's hot play lately, let's side with the Isles on the puck line near even-money, and we'll go high on the total.
- Islanders +1.5 (-105 at Caesars Sportsbook)
- Over 6 Goals (-135 at BetMGM)
