FanDuel NHL: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

The holidays are over, and now it's just a boring old Monday. However, all is not lost. There are five NHL games on the slate, after all. That means there's daily fantasy hockey in the offing. Here are my lineup recommendations.

GOALIE

Sergei Bobrovsky, CLM at DET ($8,800): Bobrovsky got off to a slow start, but that's in the rearview mirror at this point. In his last nine starts he's posted a 1.72 GAA and .946 save percentage. Though Detroit has picked up its play recently, the Wings have only scored 2.65 goals per game, bottom five in the NHL.

CENTER

Brock Nelson, NYI vs. WAS ($5,700): Nelson has been the biggest beneficiary of John Tavares' departure. He's averaged 18:10 per game in ice time, an increase of more than three minutes over last year. The 26-year-old has also averaged 2:00 per game on the power play, though he doesn't have any points with the extra man yet. That could change in this game, as the Capitals have the 24th-ranked penalty kill.

Kevin Hayes, NYR vs. OTT ($5,300): The Senators are playing, which means all eyes go to their opponents. After all, Ottawa has a staggering 4.35 GAA and has given up a whopping 38.6 shots on net per contest. Not that Hayes is merely a guy with a great matchup. He has 16 points this season despite a shooting percentage of 8.8, well below his career average.

WING

Kyle Palmieri, NJD at FLA ($6,600): Palmieri didn't score Sunday, but he still has 12 goals on 67 shots through 22 games. There's reason to believe he'll be able to add to that total in this matchup. Roberto Luongo is out again, which leaves James Reimer (3.43 GAA, .894 save percentage) as the Panthers' primary goalie. They also have the 27th-ranked penalty kill, and Palmieri had an incredible 23 power-play points in only 62 games last year.

Jonathan Huberdeau, FLA vs. NJD ($6,000): After scoring 27 goals last season, Huberdeau only has four this year. However, there's reason to believe his 8.5 percent shooting will improve, and he does have 15 assists. The Devils are the sole team on the second game of a back-to-back Monday. They may have saved Keith Kinkaid for this matchup, but he has a 3.07 GAA and .905 save percentage over his last 13 games.

Jimmy Vesey, NYR vs. OTT ($4,000): Vesey has started 52.2 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, which is actually tops among New York forwards. He's been strong to start the season, as he has eight goals through 24 games. Going up against a Senators team with a 4.35 GAA, don't be surprised if he is able to add to that total.

DEFENSE

Thomas Chabot, OTT at NYR ($5,300): Behold, the rare bright spot for the Senators. Chabot has been stellar in his sophomore season, as he has a hearty 27 points through 23 games. He's also played 3:15 per contest on the power play, which has certainly helped. The Rangers are middling in GAA (3.08), but they've allowed 33.4 shots on net per game, and they also have the 21st-ranked penalty kill.

Sami Vatanen, NJD at FLA ($4,700): Vatanen has missed some time with injury, but he has eight points in 19 games. This is despite the fact he's only scored once on 49 shots. That's a rate that is unlikely to continue. On top of that, the Panthers have a 3.62 GAA as a team, and I've already mentioned how much Reimer has struggled (3.43 GAA, .894 save percentage).
