The NHL really wants to take you into the American Thanksgiving holiday in style. There are a whopping 14 games on the slate Wednesday. All but three NHL teams are in action, so your fantasy choices are plentiful. Here are some recommendations…
GOALIE
Semyon Varlamov, COL at LOS ($8,100): Varlamov is off to a stellar start to the season, as he has a 2.32 GAA and .926 save percentage. That alone should entice you to consider the Russian netminder. If you need further convincing, the Kings have only averaged 2.00 goals per game. That's the lowest in the NHL.
CENTER
Nico Hischier, NJD vs. MON($5,700): Hischier is expected to return from a four-game injury absence, and it's a nice matchup for him to step into. The Canadiens have a 3.33 GAA and an .895 save percentage as a team. Before his injury, Hischier was playing well anyway. He has 12 points through 15 games, including five on the power play.
David Krejci, BOS at DET ($5,300): With Patrice Bergeron out, Krejci has moved up to the first-line center role for the Bruins. That should mean an increase in minutes, including on the power play. The Czech center has 16 points through 20 games, even though he has a 9.5 shooting percentage, his lowest since the 2010-11 season. Meanwhile, the Red Wings have a 3.20 team GAA, and have allowed a whopping 35.5 shots on goal per contest.
WING
Rickard Rakell, ANA vs. VAN ($7,200): Rakell has 13 points, even though he's been as snakebitten as any Duck. The 25-year-old's 4.5 shooting percentage is bound to improve. He is a two-time 30-goal scorer, after all. Perhaps luck will be on his side Wednesday, as the Canucks have a 3.57 GAA, which is second-highest in the NHL.
Zach Parise, MIN vs. OTT ($6,400): Parise may be 34, but he has life left in his legs. He's scored nine goals on the season, including six in his last 10 games. Ottawa has a 4.19 team GAA and has allowed 38.0 shots on net per game. Both are worst in the NHL.
Conor Sheary, BUF vs. PHI ($4,600): Sheary has started 73.9 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Sabres. That has probably helped him notch six points in his last eight games. Buffalo is also giving the 26-year-old the first real power-play time of his career, as he's averaged 2:34 per game with the extra man. The Flyers have the 30th-ranked penalty kill, and on top of that, they are now down to their third-string goalie due to injury.
DEFENSE
Rasmus Ristolainen, BUF vs. PHI ($4,700): Why not grab another Sabre? Ristolainen is still the top Rasmus in Buffalo for now, as the big Finn has 11 points, including four on the power play. He's also put 48 shots on goal and has averaged more than 25 minutes of ice time for the fourth season in a row. As for the Flyers? They have a 3.55 tea GAA and are down to Calvin Pickard as their primary goalie. In eight games this season, he has a 4.60 GAA and .852 save percentage.
Brent Seabrook, CHI at WAS ($4,600): Seabrook has 10 points this season, with four of them coming with the extra man. He's been quite active too, as he's put 51 shots on goal and blocked 47 shots. The Capitals have a 3.30 team GAA and also the 29th-ranked penalty kill, both of which bode well for Seabrook.
