NHL Odds Insights and Best Bets for Tonight's Matchups

Buffalo Sabres at Philadelphia Flyers

The Sabres (11-11-4) and the Flyers (14-8-3) hook up at Xfinity Mobile Center, which was formerly named the Wells Fargo Center.

The home team has won each of the first four meetings since April 5, 2024, with the Over going 3-0-1 in that span. In fact, we've seen 39 combined total goals in those five outings, or 7.8 goals per game (GPG), and in the past 10 meetings since April 17, 2022, we've had 74 goals, or 7.4 GPG. It's no surprise the Over is 6-2-2 in that span. The winning team has at least four goals in each of those 10 games, too.

The Sabres have been playing pretty good hockey lately, winning two in a row, including a 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets last time out on Monday as short 'dogs (-105) at home. Buffalo has won two in a row and six of the past nine outings, while the Under has cashed in five consecutive games.

The Flyers were involved in a 5-1 game last time out, but they were on the short end of that score on Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, they've won three of the past four games, while going 5-2-0 in the past seven outings, and 8-3-2 across the previous 14 contests.

On the flip side, Philadelphia has cashed high at a 3-0-1 pace in the past four games, while going 6-2-1 in the previous nine outings.

The Flyers rank 26th in goals scored (2.8 GPG), while checking in 20th on the power play at 17.1 percent. They've been good on the penalty kill, however, hitting at an 82.1 percent clip.

The Sabres have been middle of the road with 3.0 GPG, ranking 17th in the NHL, while posting a 71.3 percent mark on the power play, good for 19th. Buffalo has the best kill in the league, however, performing at an 88.9 percent clip.

Colten Ellis (4-2-0, 3.13 GAA, .897 save percentage) is expected to be the goaltender for the Sabres, although it wouldn't be shocking to see Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen back in there after he shut down the Jets last time out. On the other side, Dan Vladar (10-5-1, 2.59 GAA, .906 save percentage) is projected for the Fly Guys.

I trusted the Flyers on Monday and was burned badly. I'll side with Philadelphia again, however, based on Vladar, who has a strong body of work, as opposed to the relative unknown Ellis. And, the series trends suggest the home side is the play, too.

And, while the Sabres have cashed low in five in a row, we'll go high on the total, based on Philly's trends and the recent series results.

Utah Mammoth at Anaheim Ducks

The Mammoth (12-12-3) meet the Ducks (16-9-1) at Honda Center in Anaheim at 10 p.m. ET in the second end of the TV doubleheader.

Last season, Anaheim took two of the three meetings, and the Ducks posted a 3-2 victory in overtime in the first meeting, Nov. 17, as short 'dogs (+110) as the Under (6.5) cashed.

For the Ducks, Jackson LaCombe opened the scoring late in the first period, while Dylan Guenther notched a goal late in the second to level the score. In the third, Logan Cooley struck for a goal to push Utah ahead, but Troy Terry scored with just five ticks left on the clock to force overtime. In the extra session, Olen Zellweger won it with apples to Beckett Sennecke and Alex Killorn.

Karel Vejmelka allowed three goals on 26 shots, while Lukas Dostal gave up two goals on 18 shots. Vejmelka (10-7-2, 2.87 GAA, .882 save percentage) is projected in net, while Ville Husso (2-1-0, 2.69 GAA, .880 save percentage) is likely for the home side with Dostal dealing with an upper-body injury, and Petr Mrazek down with an undisclosed ailment.

Based on the Anaheim goaltender injuries, we'll back Vejmelka and the visitors to exact a little revenge for the loss in the first meeting. And, the Over is 4-1 in the past five games for Anaheim, and 3-1-1 in the same span for Utah, so we'll lean high on the total.
