STARTING PITCHER
Kenta Maeda, LAD at SFG ($43): Maeda has a 3.10 ERA, but that's being hurt by a staggering .466 BABIP. His FIP is actually 1.82 and he's struck out 13.72 batters per nine innings. It's a small sample size, but he's struck out 9.54 batters per nine innings in his career. Plus, the Giants ranked 29th in runs scored last year.
Zack Wheeler, NYM at SDP ($35): Wheeler is a solid enough pitcher, as he has a career 3.91 ERA, and at 27, is still in his prime. However, this is really about the matchup. The Padres ranked last in runs scored last season and are in the bottom 10 despite playing more games than most teams this year. Let's not forget this game is at Petco Park, either.
CATCHER
Welington Castillo, CWS at KAN ($13): Castillo has suddenly seen his power rise, as he's averaged 17 homers over the last three seasons. That's a lot for a catcher, especially since he's only averaged 106 games the last three years. Meanwhile, Ian Kennedy has a 4.75 FIP over the last three seasons and has allowed 1.67 home runs per nine innings in that time.
FIRST BASE
Jose Martinez, STL at PIT ($17): Martinez has been an outstanding hitter in his career. He hasn't played a full season worth of games yet, but his .314/.387/.510 career slash line would make for a great campaign. We know Martinez can rake, but we don't know much of anything about Pittsburgh starter Nick Kingham, as the 26-year-old will be making his MLB debut.
SECOND BASE
Ian Kinsler, LAA vs. NYY ($15): Kinsler is off to a slow start, but his .208 BABIP is bound to improve. His three-year average BABIP is .296, after all. The veteran second baseman has also hit lefties, like New York's CC Sabathia, better in recent years. Don't be fooled by Sabathia's 1.86 ERA, as his 4.91 FIP tells a different story. The big southpaw hasn't had a FIP lower than 4.25 since the 2012 season.
THIRD BASE
Miguel Andujar, NYY at LAA ($17): Andujar doesn't have much of a track record in the majors yet, but he's raked in limited action. He was also considered a top-notch prospect when he made his debut. The Angels' Tyler Skaggs has a 2.96 ERA through five starts, but he has a 4.46 ERA in his career, so he may not be prepared to keep that up.
SHORTSTOP
Dansby Swanson, ATL at PHI ($15): After a rough 2017, Swanson is hitting this year like he did when he debuted in 2016. There's a reason the shortstop was drafted first overall, and the 24-year-old hasn't hit his ceiling yet. Vince Velasquez may strike out a lot of batters, but he also has a career 4.46 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. He's also allowed 1.39 home runs per nine innings.
OUTFIELD
Rhys Hoskins, PHI vs. ATL ($24): Hoskins hasn't even played 80 MLB games yet, but he's already shown that he can hit for a ton of power. He's also, admittedly in a small sample size, clobbered righties. Brandon McCarthy is 34 and injury-prone, and his 4.51 ERA over the last three seasons is far from formidable.
David Dahl, COL at MIA ($17): Dahl didn't play Saturday, but they may have just been resting him since he's still working his way back. However, in 68 career games, he has a .316/.360/.502 slash line. Miami's Caleb Smith also doesn't have a ton of MLB games to his name, but what he does have is a career 6.69 ERA and 5.22 FIP.
Michael Brantley, CLE vs. SEA ($16): Brantley is a "good when healthy" player, as his .293/.349/.425 career slash line shows. Meanwhile, Seattle's Marco Gonzales has been getting absolutely crushed in his career. He has a career 5.49 ERA, 4.48 FIP, and 1.64 WHIP.
