Handicapping the NBA: Wednesday Picks

Even with LeBron James and Anthony Davis back, Dennis Schroder should still act as a primary playmaker.
Handicapping the NBA: Wednesday Picks

Alex Barutha

Spurs at Grizzlies UNDER 223.0 points (-110) -- FanDuel (12:42 PM CT)

These teams mirror each other in many ways. They both limit turnovers, take relatively few threes and play good defense. That feels like a recipe for an under to hit. Transition opportunities will be limited, and it's unlikely anyone catches fire from deep. I think the Grizzlies, specifically, could have a difficult time offensively. Dejounte Murray, a great defender, will be shading Ja Morant, and Jakob Poeltl is a quality defensive option against Jonas Valanciunas.

Joe Bartel

Jaren Jackson UNDER 15.5 points (-127) vs. SAS -- DraftKings (12:59 PM CT)

How many minutes do we think Jackson is going to get? That's really what this bet boils down to. If the third-year forward creeps close to the 32-minute mark we saw last time out against the Warriors, the over is absolutely in play just by the sheer volume of attempts from Jackson. I'm just not sure that's going to be the case, especially against the Spurs, who tend to limit three-point attempts from big men. The 21-year-old has gone over this figure just three times since making his season debut back in late April, so recent history also appears to be on our side with this one.

Jacob Lebowitz

Dennis Schroder OVER 3.5 assists (-134) vs. GS -- FanDuel (11:36 AM CT)

Although Schroder hasn't played especially well since returning from the league's health and safety protocols, he dished out over three assists in each of his last 22 games, and he's averaged 7.8 assists per game over this stretch. In the guard's three games against the Warriors this season, Schroder averaged 5.3 assists per game and got over his assist line in their two most recent matchups. With the Lakers finally back to full strength, Schroder will have a complete arsenal of weapons that will be able to score off his passes and get him over his assist line.
