Yahoo DFS Basketball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

After a busy Monday, there are only five games in the NBA on Tuesday. The good news is that there still are a couple potentially exciting matchups. One will be the Knicks playing host to the Sixers, which is a bout between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The other likely top game features the Jazz taking on the Nuggets. The Nuggets could be in a tough spot, having to travel to play the second game of a back-to-back set. Let's get down to business and highlight players to consider on Yahoo, as well as a few to avoid.

GUARDS

Donovan Mitchell, UTA vs. DEN ($40): The top two guards in this slate come with some risk. Luka Doncic ($52) and Stephen Curry ($49) play the Rockets and Thunder, respectively, so both games could turn into blowouts. If that happens, they could see limited playing time in the second half. With that in mind, it might be safer to roll with Mitchell, who should be involved in a closer game against the Nuggets and is coming off of scoring 40.0 Yahoo points against the Kings in his last game.

Jordan Poole, GS at OKC ($16): Poole's role on the Warriors is to shoot and shoot often. He's averaged 16.0 shot attempts in the first three games, which left him with two games with at least 20 points. On nights when his shot isn't falling, his overall fantasy production likely will disappoint. However, he could be worth the risk at this salary against the floundering Thunder.

Guard to Avoid

Kemba Walker, NY vs. PHI ($23): How often do you see a starting player on a Tom Thibodeau team average only 26 minutes a game? That's been the case for Walker, who has logged 22 and 19 minutes, respectively, the last two games. Those matchups did come against the rebuilding Magic, one of which was a lopsided win. That could mean that Walker plays more in this game if the score stays close. However, he still might be someone to avoid given that he only scored 27.9 Yahoo points in 36 minutes in the season opener against the Celtics. With Julius Randle being an excellent passing big man, Walker could continue to see a decline in assists.

FORWARDS

Anthony Davis, LAL at SA ($45): It's not difficult to make a case to deploy Davis in DFS, especially on a night like this with limited options. He's been stellar out of the gate, scoring at least 43.6 Yahoo points in all three games. He logged at least 34 minutes in each game and averaged 19.7 shot attempts, two trends that aren't likely to change significantly anytime soon.

Josh Giddey, OKC vs. GS ($20): Giddey has the potential to be a fantasy monster. He can contribute in multiple categories, evident by the fact that he had 19 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals in the Thunder's last game against the Sixers. There will be growing pains, like when he shot 4-for-13 from the field over his first two games. However, in tournament play, his upside is tantalizing.

Forward to Avoid

Thaddeus Young, SA vs. LAL ($18): Young was a key member of the Bulls last season, averaging 12.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.3 rebounds in 24 minutes per game. He was dealt to the Spurs in the offseason and figured to be an important veteran off the bench. Surprisingly, he hasn't taken the floor at all in two of their first three games. They appear fully committed to their rebuild and playing their younger players, so Young might not play in this game, either.

CENTERS

Christian Wood, HOU at DAL ($36): Wood has picked up where he left off last season, averaging 22.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in three games. Even with the Rockets involved in three lopsided scores, he logged at least 32 minutes in each game. Playing time likely won't be an issue for him in this game, either, even if the Mavericks race out to a big lead early.

Jakob Poeltl, SA vs. LAL ($22): Poeltl has shown an ability to be an above-average passer for a center, averaging at least 1.8 assists in back-to-back seasons. He's really made his mark in that category through his first three games this season, dishing out 14 total assists. In addition to his excellent passing, he's averaged 12.3 points and 9.7 rebounds. With a starting job and plenty of playing time in hand. Poeltl is an appealing mid-tier option.

Center to Avoid

Alperen Sengun, HOU at DAL ($15): If you're looking to allocate only a little of your budget to  center, it basically comes down to whether you want to roll with Sengun or Mitchell Robinson ($17). Sengun might have a bright future, but his role is limited, logging 19 minutes or fewer in each of his first three games. With that in mind, Robinson might be the better option given his starting role with the Knicks and the fact that he's scored at least 37.5 Yahoo points in two of his three games.
