Rockets and Spurs Set for Intra-State Battle
The Houston Rockets take on the San Antonio Spurs at AT & T Center on Thursday night.

The Rockets (7-17) have shown a fighting spirit in most of their games despite the poor record, and that's paid off in a big way recently with wins over the Suns and 76ers in two of their last three games. The latter victory game in the form of a 132-123 double-overtime triumph on Monday night, one in which Jalen Green led the Rockets with 27 points, adding seven assists, four rebounds and one steal. Kevin Porter Jr. furnished 24 points, six boards, three assists, one steal and one block. Tari Eason supplied 18 points, six rebounds, three steals and one block. Jabari Smith Jr. generated a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double that included one block. Eric Gordon and Kenyon Martin Jr. produced matching 14-point, three rebound tallies, with Gordon adding four assists.

The Rockets will remain without Jae'Sean Tate (ankle) for Thursday's game. Porter (knee), Bruno Fernando (illness) and Josh Christopher (foot) will all carry questionable tags.

The Spurs (6-18) haven't had any notable wins to hang their hats on lately, as they'll come into Wednesday's battle having dropped 11 consecutive contests. Their most recent stumble came Sunday night, when they were throttled by the Phoenix Suns, 133-95. Keldon Johnson led the Spurs with 27 points, supplementing them with five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Devin Vassell delivered 14 points, five boards and four assists. Keita Bates-Diop managed 12 points and three boards. Tre Jones finished with 10 points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block.

The Spurs will list Vassell (knee), Josh Richardson (ankle), Doug McDermott (ankle) and Romeo Langford (back) as questionable for Thursday's game. Jakob Poeltl (knee), Jeremy Sochan (quadriceps) and Bates-Diop (foot) will remain out.

Thursday's game marks the first of four meetings between the teams this season. The Spurs won the four-game 2021-22 regular-season series from the Rockets by a 3-1 margin.
