The Reshuffle List: Fallout From the Fifth Reshuffle

The next to last reshuffle of the 2013-14 PGA Tour season is complete. With just two months to go in the regular season, now is the time to make a mad dash to the finish.

Graduated

Brendon Todd - Todd -- who was having a great season and ended the last reshuffle in the fifth spot with his card already clinched -- outlasted veteran Mike Weir to get his first PGA Tour win and all the perks that go with it at the Byron Nelson Championship. What's intriguing about Todd's win -- versus the some of the fluke wins we've seen this season -- is that because of Todd's incoming success (two top-10s and five top-25s), additional success (i.e. contending in majors) would not be a surprise. And in fact he followed up that performance with a T5 at Colonial, a T8 at the Memorial and a T17 at the U.S. Open. So if you're looking for a sleeper, he may be it. He's not flashy statistically, but gets it done on Sunday.

Notable Gainer

There was just one big move to speak of in this reshuffle - partly because of the limited number of full-field, open events players reshuffle players could enter.

Troy Merritt, +21 spots - Merritt finished second at the St. Jude Classic before a T67 last week at the Travelers Championship. Merritt is 10th on the Reshuffle List, and with 366 points is probably one decent finish away from locking up a tour card for next season. Currently 116th on the FedEx Cup points list, that finish may also put him into a position where even an OK outing at The Barclays can advance him to the second week of the playoffs, too.

Notable Losers

None - Partially because no one (besides Merritt) ascended very much, no one fell very much either.

Cards Are Clinched

In addition to the names above, the following players have most likely clinched a PGA Tour card for next season (around 390-400 points appear to be the magic number): Billy Hurley III and Danny Lee.

Both are notable stories. Hurley's initial PGA Tour campaign in 2012 was rough, as he garnered just two top-10 finishes in 27 starts, missing 19 cuts. But he earned his way back on tour for this season and has played well, getting a T9 to start the season at the Frys.com Open and a fifth-place finish at the Honda Classic. He ranks ninth in driving accuracy.

Lee, meanwhile, has been a known quantity for a while in golf but hadn't quite put it together until this year. Helped by a second-place finish in Puerto Rico, Lee has feasted off eight finishes in the money that are seemingly always between 30th-45th place, which - when coupled with the second-place finish - will rack up enough FedEx Cup points to help earn you a return trip. Seventh on the Reshuffle List, Lee is 105th on the FedEx Cup points list - prime position to make a run in the playoffs, too.

On the Cusp

Kevin Kisner, Brice Garnett, Merritt, Tim Wilkinson and Ricky Barnes all have more than 300 FedEx Cup points and are seemingly on the cusp of locking up playing privileges for next season.

The best story here is arguably Kisner's, as he has parlayed a run of T6 and T16 at the Wells Fargo and Byron Nelson Championships into a season in which he's earned more than $580K and the opportunity to participate in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He has just one other top-25 finish.

Notable

One other player to note is Tyrone Van Aswegen, who is 18th on the Reshuffle List with 295 FedEx Cup points. The South African tied for 16th at the Nelson and 26th at last week at the Travelers, and with two other top-25 finishes is about one top-5 appearance away from securing playing privileges for next season. He ranks 10th in approaches from 150-175 yards. He's a rising star who could be a fantasy sleeper for those looking to close the season strong.

Nothing Men Update

Finally, every golfer on the Reshuffle List has earned FedEx Cup points this year.

First, Patrick Cantlay returned from his back injury and promptly made a cut. He finished T71 at the Byron Nelson Championship after being out with a stress fracture in his back. A 22-year-old who had a successful amateur career, Cantlay shot 60 at the Travelers Championship a couple years ago. He's the one player who could - even with just one FedEx Cup point to his name - make a run and keep his card if he can get into enough events and play well. He surely has the talent to do so.

And finally, after missing three cuts - that's how many events he was able to enter due to his position on the list position - Benjamin Alvarado finished T53 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, earning 15 FedEx Cup points and $13,241.
