Goalie
Sergei Bobrovsky, CBJ vs PHI ($8,600): Bobrovsky is coming off of a solid performance against the Penguins, where he stopped 39 of 41 shots. Before that effort, Bobrovsky had allowed at least four goals in three of his previous four starts, including a seven-goal massacre against the Bruins. Bobrovsky looks to be in a favorable spot sporting his lowest salary of the season against his former team at home, who he's beaten in three of his last four attempts.
Center
Derek Stepan, ARI vs COL ($5,600): Over their last 13 games, the Avalanche have allowed a league-worst 14 goals and 31 assists to centers. Stepan has enjoyed December with double-digit fantasy outputs in four of his eight appearances. With three goals and two assists this month, Stepan will look to build off his momentum in this great matchup.
Jordan Staal, CAR at BUF ($4,900): Staal hasn't recorded a point in his last two contests, but notched two goals and an assist in the previous two. Buffalo just played last night, so they're probably going with backup Chad Johnson in net tonight. Also working in Staal's favor is his success versus the Sabres in the last three matchups, where he's racked up a goal and three assists. You can't beat him at this salary, as he should easy hit value.
Wing
Patric Hornqvist, PIT vs ANH ($5,700): Hornqvist has points in back-to-back games and sits at 12 goals on the season. Seven of those goals have come on the mighty Penguins power play, a side who sits third in the NHL with a 24.8 percentage success rate. Skating on the second line with Evgeni Malkin, Hornqvist should find opportunities in high-quality scoring areas. And while he may be popular, his on-ice benefits should justify his salary.
Boone Jenner, CBJ vs PHI ($4,200): Jenner has totaled just one point in his last seven outings, but is primed to break out of that slump against the Flyers tonight. With Philly playing their second road game in as many nights, they're expected to start Alex Lyon in net for his NHL debut with regular backup Michal Neuvirth injured. Jenner should be able to produce, and is expected to skate on the second line with Cam Atkinson and Alexander Wennberg.
Jonathan Marchessault, VGK vs WAS ($6,700): Marchessault has been tremendous for the Golden Knights in their inaugural season with 12 goals, 19 assists, and 3.47 shots on goal per contest, the third-highest mark in the league for wingers. Over the last two, Marchessault has potted two goals and added three assists. With eight power-play points and his strong play of late, the former Panther remains a major reason why Vegas are 7-2-1 in their last ten. And with 15 wingers sporting a more expensive salary, go ahead and roll with Marchessault.
Defense
Oliver Ekman-Larsson, ARI vs COL ($5,300): Even though Ekman-Larsson has produced only one point in his last nine games, this matchup against Colorado is as inviting as it gets. Over their last 13 contests, the Avalanche have allowed 13 goals and 19 assists to defensemen – the second-most fantasy points allowed over that span. With six goals, Ekman-Larsson ranks eighth among all blueliners – and four of them have been scored on the power play, putting him tops in that category.
Seth Jones, CBJ vs PHI ($5,300): Jones has been a beneficiary of Zach Werenski's absence, and it's looking like that will repeat itself tonight. In addition to a goal and two assists in his last two, Jones has scored goals in three of his last five and is directing three shots on goal per game on the season. With an average of 19.02 fantasy points over his last five, it's hard to believe there are 17 D-men on tonight's schedule who carry higher salaries.
