NHL Pick'Em: Cooley and Merilainen Predictions for Tonight's Games
Devin Cooley Under 26.5 Saves at Utah Mammoth - 9:30 p.m. ET
Cooley, the Flames' backup behind Dustin Wolf, will be making his first appearance of the regular season, so he might be a little rusty. Utah, meanwhile, may not be the worst shooting team in the league; the Mammoth are averaging just 26 shots through their first few games. Those two facts should combine for a slow night for Cooley -- assuming he makes it the whole game, which would be icing on the cake if he got pulled.
Leevi Merilainen Under 2.5 Goals Allowed at Buffalo Sabres - 7:00 p.m. ET
Another backup making his season debut, there is some inherent risk in utilizing Merilainen. But, to be blunt, the Sabres have looked awful to open the 2025-26 campaign, going 0-3-0 while scoring just two total goals. Buffalo hasn't shown anything close to an offensive upside at this point, and the team even scoring two goals to get close to this total would be impressive enough.
Dylan Cozens Over 0.5 Points at Buffalo Sabres - 7:00 p.m. ET
Sorry to pick on the Sabres here, but they've really been that bad to start the season. Cozens has two points through his first three games and will likely benefit from the return of Drake Batherson from an upper-body injury. Let's not sleep on the fact that this is a revenge game of sorts for Cozens, who was traded by Buffalo to Ottawa last year. Finally, it's early in the year, but Cozens is currently averaging a personal best 3:35 of ice time with the man advantage, so getting a point is a somewhat low threshold here.
