Race Preview

The NASCAR Xfinity series takes on a double-header this Saturday with the trucks at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Atlanta's track surface is the oldest the series races on this season and should make the exciting racing we've already seen this season even more intense. Harrison Burton will aim to continue his run of top-10 finishes in every race this season. He is just the second rookie driver in the series to accomplish that and will get a feel for the track in the truck series earlier in Saturday's double-header. Two Georgia natives will take the green flag in the Xfinity series with him. Ryan Sieg and Brandon Jones both call the state home. Both drivers are off to their best starts to a season and will look to keep that momentum alive.

Key Stats at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Previous 10 Atlanta Winners

2019 - Christopher Bell
2018 - Kevin Harvick
2017 - Kyle Busch
2016 - Kyle Busch
2015 - Kevin Harvick
2014 - Kevin Harvick
2013 - Kevin Harvick
2012 - Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
2011 - Carl Edwards
2010 - Jamie McMurray

After Kyle Busch won in Charlotte, Noah Gragson seized the opportunity in Bristol to grab his second win of the season. He and Chase Briscoe are the only multiple-race winners heading to Atlanta this weekend. Those two and the rest of the field will have to manage their tires effectively to come out on top this weekend. The lower downforce package has created thrilling races in the series this year and should be a good combination with Atlanta's rough surface. Tire wear coupled with a lack of grip will force drivers and teams to manage strategy and chassis settings throughout the race distance. The last two races at the track have seen the winner lead over 100 laps in dominating style with minimal cautions. Fantasy owners should expect long green-flag runs and look for drivers who have had speed this season, especially at tracks with rough surfaces like Fontana and Darlington.

MY PICKS THIS WEEK

Lower-Risk Lineup ($50K Salary Cap)

Justin Allgaier - $10,700
Austin Cindric - $9,700
Noah Gragson - $9,100
Brett Moffitt - $7,800
Justin Haley - $6,500
Joe Nemechek - $6,000

Justin Allgaier will start third in Saturday's race and brings five Atlanta top-10s from nine career starts to the lower-risk fantasy lineup option. It seems like just a matter of time before Austin Cindric gets his first 202 victory. He will start eighth on Saturday and is trying to put his disappointing Bristol visit last week well behind him. Noah Gragson drew the pole for this race after winning last week's race. He is second in the standings and a steal at this week's price. Brett Moffitt has a truck series win at this track and brings top-10 potential to the lineup this week as a result. He will start 13th. Justin Haley has four top-10s and two top-fives so far in 2020. He was eighth in Atlanta last season. Veteran Joe Nemechek rounds out this lineup option. He starts 28th this week, which could give him the opportunity to add points for finish differential. Getting to the finish will be the biggest challenge for this team, though.

Higher-Risk Lineup ($50K Salary Cap)

Chase Briscoe - $11,200
Harrison Burton - $9,500
Alex Labbe - $8,300
Ryan Sieg - $7,500
Riley Herbst - $7,300
Kody Vanderwal - $6,200

Chase Briscoe sits atop the championship standings with two wins and finished second last week at Bristol. He finished 15th in both Atlanta Xfinity races he has competed in but has five top-10s from seven starts so far this season. Harrison Burton is working to extend his streak of finishing in the top 10 in every race this season and has a good price this week considering the streak he has put together. Alex Labbe has not yet finished in the top 10 at Atlanta in this series, but he remains a top-15 driver with upside potential that fantasy owners should consider each week. Ryan Sieg finished in 11th in this race last season and has four top-10s from the seven races so far this season, Riley Herbst sits in playoff contention with three top-10s so far this season. He continues to have top-10 speed each week and just needs to bring that pace all the way to the finish. Kody Vanderwal has only started four Xfinity races so far this season but starts on the last row on Saturday. A top-20 finish would be a huge gain for fantasy owners looking for finish differential points to make the difference.
