Location: Bristol, Tenn.
Course: Bristol Motor Speedway
Format: 0.53-mile oval
Laps: 300

Race Preview

Kyle Busch walked away with the win last week in Charlotte in the second race since competition was suspended. Busch led 94 of the 203 laps and won the race after starting from 18th position. Daniel Hemric and Austin Cindric finished second and third, which put Cindric fifth in the standings as the highest-placed driver without a win to his credit. This week the series returns for a Monday night race in the tight confines of Bristol Motor Speedway. Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell scored the two wins at the track last season.

The Xfinity competitors will have the advantage of the NASCAR Cup series having raced at the track the day before. The 500-lap event laid down rubber and cleaned the surface, which should enable drivers to move around the grooves sooner in the running to find what suits their car the best. Once the surface is worn in, the action should heat up. Reddick led just 19 laps when he won the fall race last year, while Bell only led 57 when he won in the spring. The short circuit enables tighter competition for the lead, but fantasy owners will want to look more to drivers who start near the front. Only once since 2013 has someone won here after starting outside of the top 10.

Chase Briscoe is the only multiple-race winner in the Xfinity series so far this season. The only driver to have finished in the top 10 in every race so far is Harrison Burton, who won in California. Every contender will be working to perfect their settings as early as possible Monday as they look to add their name to the winner's list. Bristol's short lap means any mistakes on pit road will be heavily punished. Staying on the lead lap and navigating traffic will be the goal, but track position for restarts could play a heavy factor in determining the outcome.

MY PICKS THIS WEEK

Lower-Risk Lineup ($50K Salary Cap)

Ross Chastain - $10,700
Noah Gragson - $10,300
Austin Cindric - $9,400
Bayley Currey - $7,200
Justin Haley - $6,300
Joe Nemechek - $5,900

Ross Chastain has finished in the top 10 in the last five Xfinity races. He hasn't been the fastest at Bristol, with just one top-10 finish from nine series starts, but he is on a roll, and it would be tough to see that momentum leave him. Backing him up is Noah Gragson, who won in Daytona and has three top-10 finishes in the last five races. Austin Cindric may be due for a win. He is the highest-placed driver in the standings to not have a win, has finished eighth or better in every race since Daytona, and has back-to-back top-10 finishes at this track heading into Monday. Bayley Currey will start 33rd for Monday's race, giving opportunity for fantasy owners to make a play for finish differential points. Currey started 38th at Bristol in 2018 and finish 27th. Justin Haley suffered an engine failure at Bristol last fall, but he did finish seventh in his first series race at the track. Lastly, Joe Nemechek adds veteran experience to lineup. He has 22 career series starts at Bristol and should be a confident top-20 finisher.

Higher-Risk Lineup ($50K Salary Cap)

Chase Briscoe - $12,000
Harrison Burton - $9,700
Brandon Brown - $7,700
Ryan Sieg - $7,600
Riley Herbst - $7,500
Timmy Hill - $5,500

Chase Briscoe will start Monday's race from the 11th position. With two wins already this season he is already preparing for the championship elimination rounds, and there isn't a much better way to do that than continue winning. Briscoe was the runner-up the last time he raced in this series at this track. Harrison Burton is the only Xfinity series driver to have finished in the top 10 in every race so far. His only Bristol Xfinity start resulted in a 10th-place finish. Brandon Brown currently holds a 16-point advantage in the final playoff position. He could build on that Monday but only has a best finish of 12th in three races at the track. Ryan Sieg will be happy to leave Charlotte and regain form in Bristol. He has never scored a top-10 at the track, but he has finished in the top 15 in three of the last four races here. Riley Herbst will take to the Bristol high banks for the first time in the series. With only two finishes outside of the top 15 so far this season, a good debut on Monday could be in store. Finally, Timmy Hill finished seventh in last year's fall race here. Can he spring another surprise Monday?
