Willock (calf) could be an option for Monday's clash against Liverpool after training with the team this week, being back fit and looking good, coach Eddie Howe said in the press conference. Howe added, "Joe trained on Tuesday and Wednesday and trained really well. When he went down in the game [in Korea] I thought he was going to be out longer term, it didn't look good. Credit to him, he's got back fit and looking good."
ANALYSIS
Willock suffered a calf injury during a pre-season game in South Korea which did not look good and he was expected to miss a long period. That said, he got back fit and is looking good after resuming team training this week, suggesting he could be back for Monday's clash against the Reds. That said, he should however hold a rotational role this season, therefore his return will not affect the starting XI.

Should return early September
MNewcastle United
GTD
August 5, 2025
Willock (calf) is expected to return in early September, according to manager Eddie Howe. "We initially feared he could have injured part of his Achilles, but thankfully that wasn't the case. But it looks like he's got a problem with a muscle in the calf. So we feel the injury isn't as serious as maybe first feared, which is great news for Joe, but it's still going to keep him out for a number of weeks. How many we're not sure, but early diagnosis is looking four to six, which, although being a blow, is probably much better than the initial thought."

Willock was stretchered off the field in a preseason match due to an apparent serious ankle injury, according to manager Eddie Howe, per Craig Hope of The Daily Mail. "I don't have a major update yet, but it didn't look great on the pitch. But at this moment, it doesn't look like a major, major injury. And fingers crossed it's not, because Joe has suffered enough. Hopefully he's ok."

Crystal Palace showing interest

May 11, 2025
Crystal Palace are interested in signing Willock, according to The Chronicle Live.
ANALYSIS
Willock is dealing with a minor thigh injury, but that shouldn't impact him on a long-term basis. The central midfielder has been relegated to a secondary role at Newcastle, and he'd be interested in pursuing a move to Crystal Palace, as he would have a bigger chance of seeing regular minutes, particularly if Adam Wharton departs the club in the summer.
