DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Max Scherzer, WAS vs. SD ($13,100): We're going to go with both ends of the pricing spectrum at pitcher and start by paying up for Scherzer in a highly favorable matchup. He scored 29.1 fantasy points against the Padres on June 18 and has also scored between 34.2 and 38.7 fantasy points in four other starts over his last 10. He's also averaged 28.2 fantasy points per game at home this year, while allowing only a .185 batting average. Meanwhile, San Diego has generated a .288 wOBA and 24.6 percent strikeout rate against right-handed pitching, both second-worst figures in the majors.

Tyler Anderson, COL vs. ATL ($5,700): Yes, Anderson is starting at Coors Field, but he makes for a sneaky tournament play for just that reason. He's actually fared better at home than on the road this season, with a very respectable Coors ERA of 3.26, and only two homers given up over 30.1 innings. The Braves have been one of the worst teams in the majors against southpaws, generating only a .282 wOBA and .104 ISO against that handedness, along with a 20.7 percent strikeout rate.

CATCHER

Jett Bandy, LAA at HOU ($2,600): Bandy has hit safely in four of the last five games and has a .358 wOBA overall this month. Astros starter Collin McHugh has yielded a .347 wOBA at Minute Maid Park this season, and a .342 wOBA to right-handed hitters there as well.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI at CIN ($4,800) Goldschmidt has a .370 wOBA, .213 ISO, 37.2 percent hard contact rate and 127 WRC+ against right-handed pitchers this season, while also blasting 13 of his 16 homers against them. Meanwhile, Reds starter Keyvius Sampson has given up a massive .441 wOBA to right-handed hitters, making him a great target for Goldschmidt in hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark.

SECOND BASE

Jean Segura, ARI at CIN ($4,900): As just mentioned, Reds starter Keyvius Sampson has struggled against right-handed bats, and Segura has blasted righties to the tune of a .353 wOBA. Segura has also ripped off three straight double-digit fantasy point outings, one of which was a 2-for-3 game Friday that included his eighth homer of the season. Whenever Sampson does give way to the bullpen, Segura will also have the benefit of facing the worst bullpen in baseball.

THIRD BASE

Yunel Escobar, LAA at HOU ($2,800): Escobar has a .344 wOBA this month and five double-digit fantasy point outings over the last 10 games. He's been one of the most dependable cash game plays all season, making his sub-$3K price all the more surprising. As detailed earleir, Astros starter Collin McHugh has struggled against right-handed hitters at Minute Maid Park, further brightening Escobar's prospects.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK vs. TAM ($4,700): Semien has battered southpaws this season, tallying a .398 wOBA and .360 ISO against that handedness, along with half of his career-high 20 homers. Opposing starter Drew Smyly has allowed a .349 wOBA and 17 of his 21 homers on the season to righty bats. He's had an even more difficult time on the road, where he's surrendered a .410 wOBA and 40.7 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters, and a 6.28 ERA and .380 wOBA overall.

OUTFIELD

Hernan Perez, MIL vs. CHC ($2,900): Perez has been swinging a hot bat, with four consecutive two-hit games, and double-digit fantasy points in five straight contests. Meanwhile, Cubs starter John Lackey has given up 12 of his 15 homers on the season to righty bats and has yielded a .341 wOBA, 6.30 ERA and 38.3 percent hard contact rate over the 20 innings covering his three starts this month.

George Springer, HOU vs. LAA ($4,200): Springer has blasted Angels starter Jered Weaver over his career, posting a .444/.500/.833 line over 18 at-bats, with a double, two homers and three RBI. Springer also has a .335 wOBA against righties, which rises to .375 when facing them at home, and he's hit 14 of his 21 homers on the season against right-handed arms. Meanwhile, Weaver has given up a .358 wOBA against righties that rises to .382 when facing them on the road, where he's also yielded a 41.7 percent hard contact rate.

Mark Trumbo, BAL vs. CLE ($4,100): Khris Davis ($4,300) is also a very solid play against Smyly, but Trumbo has a very reasonable price, especially considering his long ball-upside and Indians starter Josh Tomlin's own struggles with keeping the ball in the park. Trumbo boasts a .397 wOBA, .265 ISO and 37.4 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching, along with 19 of his 28 homers on the season, and he's been even more lethal at home, where he's managed a .434 wOBA. Tomlin has had a very solid season overall, but has given up 22 homers, with half of those coming from right-handed bats.
