DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Anthony DeSclafani, CIN at SD ($9,400): The Padres remain near the bottom of the barrel statistically against right-handed pitching in virtually every category, generating only a .290 wOBA and striking out 24.8 percent of the time against that handedness. DeSclafani brings plenty of upside, as evidenced by four recent starts of over 20 fantasy points, and he already stymied the Padres to the tune of 28.4 fantasy points on the strength of eight shutout frames earlier this season.

Jameson Taillon, PIT at MIL ($8,200): Taillon continues to provide significant upside at a very cost-effective salary, and he draws the majors' most strikeout-prone team against right-handed pitching in the Brewers (26.1 percent strikeout rate). The rookie has also been a much better road pitcher this season, notching a pair of victories, a solid 2.50 ERA and averaging 19.7 fantasy points per game over his three starts away from PNC Park.

CATCHER

Kurt Suzuki, MIN vs. CWS ($2,800): This is all about upside at a bargain price, as Suzuki recent performances warrant a salary well over $3K. He's lifted his average a whopping 76 points since the beginning of June, and brings a solid track record against White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez as well, having hit safely in four of five at-bats against him with a double, walk and three RBI.

FIRST BASE

Joey Votto, CIN at SD ($5,000) Votto is another player who's been on a tear after an early-season slump that even had him musing about retirement. He's seen a 67-point boost in his batting average since June 1 and has been particularly on fire in July, slashing .412/.553/.647 for the month while generating a whopping .500 wOBA. Votto also comes in with a 13-game hitting streak, and he has double-digit fantasy points in seven of his last 10 games. Despite the lefty-on-lefty matchup against the Padres' Christian Friedrich, Votto remains strongly in play given his .329 wOBA against southpaws, and Friedrich's own .326 wOBA allowed to lefty hitters that rises to .385 when facing them at Petco Park.

SECOND BASE

Javier Baez, CHC vs. SEA ($4,400): Baez is hitting out of the clean-up spot and has double-digit fantasy points in three of his last five games. He has also blasted southpaws to the tune of a .443 wOBA and .221 ISO this season, but his numbers against them at Wrigley have been positively video game-worthy, tallying a whopping .575 wOBA, .325 ISO and astronomical 270 wRC+ against lefties at home. Meanwhile opposing starter Wade Miley has given up a .363 wOBA and 15 of his 18 homers on the season to righty bats, with six of those round-trippers coming on the road.

THIRD BASE

Adrian Beltre, TEX vs. KC ($4,100): Beltre is our entry against Royals starter Ian Kennedy, who always seems to be good for yielding a homer or two, at a minimum. Throw in the sweltering conditions of Globe Life Park and those chances go up. Beltre has a .400/.455/.800 line against Kennedy in 10 career at-bats, with a double, homer and two RBI. He also boasts a .340 wOBA against righties at home this season, and a .345 wOBA overall this month. Kennedy has surrendered 12 homers to righty bats this season and has yielded a .335 wOBA and eight of those gopher balls to them on the road.

SHORTSTOP

Jordy Mercer, PIT at MIL ($3,500): Mercer represents a cost-effective way to target Brewers starter Chase Anderson, who he's battered to the tune of an .833 average (5-for-6) with a double and two RBI in his career, and has shown some solid upside recently with four double-digit fantasy point outings in his last 10 games . Anderson has given up a bloated .429 wOBA and 12 homers to right-handed hitters this season, and a .441 wOBA and 38.4 percent hard contact rate to them at Miller Park. He's been on a downhill slide as well, generating a 5.19 ERA and giving up a .392 wOBA over his last four starts.

OUTFIELD

Rajai Davis, CLE vs. OAK ($4,300): Adam Duvall ($4,000) is an appealing option as well against Friedrich, and Andrew McCutchen ($4,300) and George Springer ($4,400) also merit a look Saturday against Anderson and Justin Verlander, respectively. However, I want some exposure against A's rookie southpaw Dillon Overton, who's struggled against both handedness of hitters this season. Davis has a .330 wOBA against lefties at home, and Overton has surrendered a .465 wOBA and four homers to right-handed bats on the road.

Tyler Naquin, CLE vs. OAK ($4,800): Naquin is a bat from the other side of the plate that I want to attack Overton with, despite the lefty-on-lefty matchup. The Indians rookie hasn't been fazed in the least when taking on southpaws this season, as he's generated a .351 wOBA, .227 ISO and 33.3 percent hard contact rate against them. Overton has a very small sample against left-handed bats, but he has given up a .506 wOBA and two homers to 16 hitters of that handedness he's faced.

Trea Turner, WAS at SF ($3,400): Turner has scored double-digit fantasy points in eight of his last 10 games. That's spectacular production and potential return on investment, making him too tantalizing to pass up Saturday against Giants starter Jake Peavy. Turner has a .382 wOBA against righty arms and a .550 wOBA in a very limited sample against them on the road, while Peavy has given up a .324 wOBA and 35.1 percent hard contact rate to righty bats at home.
