Closer Watch - A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (also check out our Closer Grid)

Houston - Mark Melancon blew his fourth save of the season Thursday when he served up a two-run home run to Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt in the bottom of the ninth inning. Melancon probably won't see many save opportunities down the stretch as the closer for the team with the worst record in the league, but his job is safe.

Recommended Pickup

Rafael Betancourt, RP, COL - With Huston Street landing on the 15-day DL, Betancourt slots in as the team's closer as Matt Lindstrom is also on the shelf. As the strong ratios -- 3.61 ERA, 1.08 WHIP -- and excellent 56:8 K:BB suggest, Betancourt is more than capable of handling the ninth-inning role for the Rockies as long as they need him. The interesting thing to consider here is that Colorado is out of the playoff hunt, which could lead them to handle Street with extra caution. Even if the absence is a short one, Betancourt should get a handful of saves over the next 10 days or so while Street is sidelined.

Other recent recommendations:J.D. Martinez, Robinson Chirinos, Kyle Blanks, Garrett Jones, Jose Altuve
