Michael Brantley, OF, CLE – (Back) Indians hoping he can return Friday.
Kole Calhoun, OF, LAA – (Calf) Friday return at earliest.
Carlos Carrasco, P, CLE – Comebacker hit jaw Tuesday, carted off with jaw contusion but avoided concussion. Might hit DL, might miss a start, might not miss anything. Stay tuned.
Michael Cuddyer, OF, NYM – (Hand) X-Rays negative, might return Wednesday.
Brett Gardner, OF, NYY – (Wrist) Hoping to return Friday.
Casey McGehee, 3B, SF – (Knee) Missed third straight game Tuesday.
Devin Mesoraco, C, CIN – (Hip) Still not traveling with team, Reds have promoted third catcher but trying to avoid a DL stint.
Brandon Phillips, 2B, CIN – (Head) Left Tuesday after getting clobbered on a play at third base by Starlin Castro, no concussion symptoms but left light-headed. Could return Wednesday.
Yasiel Puig, OF, LAD – (Shoulder) Expected to return Wednesday.
David Wright, 3B, NYM – (Leg) Pulled hamstring, should be headed to DL.
Christian Yelich, OF, MIA – (Back) Scratched Tuesday with tightness.

Players on the DL
Vic Black, P, NYM – (Shoulder) Began rehab Tuesday at High-A.
Matt Cain, P, SF – (Forearm) At least a week away from playing catch, looks like return in April is doubtful.
Mat Latos, SP, CIN – (Knee) Hit hard, but no health issues in four-inning rehab start.
Jaime Garcia, P, STL – (Shoulder) Had bullpen session Sunday, will throw another Wednesday and could throw to live hitters Friday.
Kenley Jansen, P, LAD – (Foot) Worked off mound Tuesday for first time since surgery.
Tommy La Stella, 2B, CHC – (Oblique) No improvement from injury, placed on DL.
Nate McLouth, OF, WAS – (Shoulder) Second MRI revealed nothing more, had cortisone shot, probably out through end of month.
Ivan Nova, P, NYY – (Elbow) Will throw batting practice Tuesday while rehabbing from Tommy John.
Bobby Parnell, P, NYM – (Elbow) Began rehab at High-A Tuesday while returning from Tommy John.
Hunter Pence, OF, SF – (Forearm) Not cleared to swing yet, manager Bochy still hoping for return by end of the month.
Anthony Rendon, 2B, WAS – (Knee) Could play at second base when he returns, but no timetable for return yet.
Garrett Richards, P, LAA – (Knee) Tentatively scheduled to start Sunday for Angels.

Denard Span, OF, WAS – (Abdomen) Began rehab at Double-A Tuesday, not expected to return until May.
Nick Swisher, 1B, CLE – (Knee) Could begin rehab next week.
Matt Wieters, C, BAL – Elbow) Threw from 150 feet, targeting return at beginning of May.
Brandon Workman, P, BOS – (Elbow) Will see Dr. James Andrews, a bad sign that could mean Tommy John surgery.

Closer Watch

New York Yankees – Andrew Miller notched a five out save in Monday's game while Dellin Betances allowed four baserunners in one inning of work. Manager Joe Girardi maintains the two will split save opportunities, but Miller looks like the better bet as of now.

Pittsburgh – Mark Melancon entered in the ninth with a four run lead, and it is a good thing considering he allowed three runs on four hits before finally disposing of the Tigers. He is not in danger of losing his job, but his owners have to be frustrated with a bumbling performance in a non-save situation.

Tampa Bay – Brad Boxberger struggled a bit but notched his third save Monday. Then Kevin Jepsen picked up Tuesday's save when Boxberger was given the night off after pitching three times in four days. Jake McGee is out until around the end of April or beginning of May and Boxberger is safe in this role at least until then. Boxberger has been good overall, but the closing situation here looks volatile.

Recommended Pickup

Alex Guerrero, 2B, LAD – All due respect to Juan Uribe, who has managed to put together a 15-year career, but sooner or later the Dodgers might have to call it quits on Uribe and move on to the Alex Guerrero effort. Uribe managed just one extra-base hit in 51 spring training at-bats and he is 3-for-13 with no extra-base hits on the season. Uribe was back in Tuesday's lineup after missing two games with a hamstring injury and in the meantime Guerrero knocked home six RBIs. Guerrero hit .329/.364/.613 with 15 home runs in 65 Triple-A games last year while missing a chunk of time because a teammate bit off part of his ear. Guerrero has had a raw deal and has performed in his time with the Dodgers, yet the Dodgers have not given him a real shot. Uribe has played in more than 103 games in a season just once since 2011, and already he is struggling with the hamstring, so Guerrero remains in a position to jump on playing time when the situation arises.

Other Recent Recommendations:Mark Canha, Kevin Kiermaier, Stephen Vogt, Miguel Castro, Jake Lamb.
