Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Jaime Garcia, STL vs. ATL ($34): I have been a fan of using batted ball splits for the past few seasons, so there is no way I can pass on a chance to take the ground-ball machine that is Jaime Garcia against the Braves, who have the third lowest fly-ball rate in the league. Garcia has been mediocre of late, but he should have every chance to succeed against Atlanta and their .290 wOBA against lefties.

Francisco Liriano, TOR at KC ($25): Liriano's 5.46 ERA is evidence that he's had more failures than triumphs this season, but he is a heavy ground-ball pitcher against Kansas City's ground-ball offense, and he should be helped by the fact that the Royals walk just 6.4 percent of the time against lefties. Conventional wisdom tells us to pick at least one high-caliber starter in two-pitcher formats, but there is no matchup that jumps off the page and we have a few stack options to cover, so I don't have an issue with going cheap on both barrels.

CATCHER

Brian McCann, NYY vs. CLE ($12): The home run counter for Josh Tomlin reached nine consecutive games after he allowed a solo shot in his last start against the A's. The Bombers haven't lived up to their moniker this season, but we can still find value in a player like McCann, who has tallied a .190 ISO and a 36 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitchers.

FIRST BASE

Mike Napoli, CLE at NYY ($24): Opposing starter Michael Pineda leans heavily on his slider, throwing it a whopping 40 percent of the time. This seems like great news for Napoli, as he holds the sixth highest runs above average mark against the pitch this season. The 34-year-old is showing excellent power against right-handed pitchers, notching a .273 ISO over 282 at-bats.

SECOND BASE

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs. SF ($24): Murphy simply refuses to slow down, as he now has a .630 slugging percentage in 102 games. Murphy's 44 percent fly ball rate should work to complement Jeff Samardzija's ground-ball profile. It is also worth noting that Murphy rates four runs above average against the cutter, a pitch the shark throws almost 30 percent of the time.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC at OAK ($20): What can be said about Dillon Overton's numbers this season that hasn't been screamed by angry A's fans during stress dreams? The young lefty has allowed nine home runs in 18.1 innings (four starts), equating to a HR/9 rate of nearly 4.50. Meanwhile, Bryant has tallied a .314 ISO and a .400 OBP against lefties over 121 at-bats.

SHORTSTOP

Jhonny Peralta, STL vs. ATL ($10):Joel De La Cruz looks to be in for a significant correction, as he holds a jarring 6.10 xFIP against right-handed hitters over 12.1 innings. Peralta hasn't been able to touch lefties this season, but he has kept a .217 ISO against righty pitching.

OUTFIELD

Marcell Ozuna, MIA at COL ($16): Ozuna's dominance against left-handed pitching is something to behold. He will take a .714 slugging percentage and .363 ISO against his opposite hand to Coors Field to face Jorge De La Rosa, whose xFIP against righties is approaching 5.00.

Robbie Grossman, MIN at TB ($11): Grossman has cooled off after a hot start to his season, but he remains a nice value play against lefties due to his .560 slugging percentage. Blake Snell is a promising young pitcher who sometimes allows the zone to get away from him, as evidenced by his nearly 12 percent walk rate.

Nelson Cruz, LAA at SEA ($21): No picks article would be complete without at least one hitter against Tim Lincecum, who remains in the rotation out of necessity but appears to be all but out of steam, as his ERA clocks in at 8.50, and he has allowed 10 home runs over 35 innings. Cruz has tallied a .209 ISO with a 34 percent hard contact rate against same-handed pitchers.

Other options: Michael Saunders, TOR at KC ($19); Ian Desmond, TEX at HOU ($19); Adam Duvall, CIN at PIT ($18)
