Best NBA Bets for Opening Night

Rockets at Thunder under 228.5 (-115)

DraftKings, 10:07 AM CT

Alex Barutha: These are two defensively-focused teams. Houston will be starting a massive lineup featuring Amen Thompson, Kevin Durant, Jabari Smith, Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams. I imagine that also slows down their pace. Meanwhile, the Thunder will be missing No. 2 scoring option Jalen Williams. Not only does that hurt their offense, but defensive-minded players like Alex Caruso and Cason Wallace should be more involved.

Houston Rockets at Oklahoma City Thunder under 227.5 (-112)

DraftKings, 4:00 PM CT

Kirien Sprecher: It's never fun taking the under on Opening Night, but I think the Rockets' massive starting lineup is telling. Without Fred VanVleet, the offense will run through Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun, but Houston is going to rely on their incredibly deep defensive talent. OKC is no slouch on that end of the court either, and they have the size to make life very difficult for the Rockets. Amen Thompson on SGA is going to be a lot of fun, and I think the Thunder's offense struggles a bit without Jalen Williams.

OVER on Alperen Sengun dishing 5.5 assists at Thunder

(DraftKings, -125, Noon EST)

Ken Crites: With Fred VanVleet out for the year, it looks like the Rockets are going with a BIG starting lineup of Amen at the point, KD (at SG!), Smith, Sengun and Adams.  That means Sengun will be playing some glorious "point center" from the elbow and I'm excited to see it. Amen Thompson averaged 3.8 assists per game last year.  Sengun had 4.9 dimes per contest.  I think Sengun picks up the FVV slack.  Over the past two seasons, the K-Train was 50-43, so take this advice with a grain of salt -- CHOO CHOO!

Warriors to cover -2.5 points (-112) at Lakers

FanDuel, 10:21 AM CT

Alex Barutha: I don't trust this LeBron-less version of the Lakers. Their offensive ceiling is lowered, and they aren't exactly replacing him with defensive stoppers. Meanwhile, the Warriors are essentially at full health (minus Moses Moody and De'Anthony Melton). They were excellent to close out last season and should come in more prepared from the preseason than the Lakers.
