The confetti has barely stopped falling after Indiana's dream journey culminated with the 2026 College Football Playoff national championship. But it's never too early to look ahead to next season for college football betting customers and fans alike.
So RotoWire.com ran 100 simulations on ChatGPT for the 2026-27 season to estimate how often each top contender makes the 12-team CFP field, reaches the title game and ultimately wins the title. Here's what the AI tool projects; we also included DraftKings Sportsbook title odds:

We asked ChatGPT to simulate next season 100 times all the way through the CFP Championship Game. These projections won't necessarily line up with futures odds at sports betting sites and your mileage may vary depending on the prompt that is fed into the machine.
To keep the focus on realistic contenders (and avoid clutter from deep longshots), every team priced longer than +20000 was combined into a single bucket: "All other teams (odds > +20000)." Odds are from DraftKings as of Jan. 20, 2026. Odds were converted into baseline team power ratings (markets implicitly incorporate roster outlook, coaching stability, recruiting, and program strength).
Favorites For 2027 CFP Championship
The Big Ten has captured the past three CFP titles, by three different programs, so it makes sense that the 18-team juggernaut of a conference tops the board for our 2026-27 season projections.
The
Ohio State Buckeyes lead the way with 15 national championships over the course of 100 simulated seasons, matching their status as the college football national championship odds favorite for 2026-27. All-American wide receiver Jeremiah Smith (above) returns for the Buckeyes next season, as does starting quarterback Julian Sayin.
But the newly crowned champions won't go away quietly, even with the assumption that Heisman Trophy QB Fernando Mendoza will skip his final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL Draft. The
Hoosiers, on the heels of completing the first 16-0 season in modern college football history, made the 12-team CFP field the most times under our statistical model, with 59 appearances.
IU won the national title in 14 of our 100 simulations, tied for second with Texas and Notre Dame. Customers using the Caesars Sportsbook promo code can get +650 odds on the Fighting Irish and similar numbers for the Longhorns and Hoosiers (+700 each).
Others Who Might Contend For CFP Title
In all, 14 teams won at least one national title after 100 projected seasons. That includes five Big Ten programs – Oregon, USC and Penn State plus the top two – and six out of the SEC: Texas, LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M and Tennessee.
The
Miami Hurricanes came close to winning it all, falling to IU 27-21 in Monday's National Championship Game on their home field, Hard Rock Stadium.
The Canes are only projected to win the national title twice next season in our simulations. UM, a member of the ACC, is one of three schools outside of the Big Ten or SEC projected to win a championship, along with reigning Big 12 champion Texas Tech and FBS independent Notre Dame.
If you're wondering about the 329 CFP appearances for teams with national title odds greater than +20000 at DraftKings and other sportsbook apps, remember that one team out of the Group of Five leagues is guaranteed a Playoff berth. Also, some Power 4 teams have greater than +20000 CFP championship odds.
