Slated to be limited this offseason
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Sunday that Prescott (hamstring) will participate in a limited fashion to begin the offseason program, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones added that Prescott is continuing to do well in his recovery from a season-ending torn right hamstring, saying, "He's very thrilled with where he is. And I know the trainers are too," according to Machota. The 31-year-old underwent season-ending surgery in mid-November, and his timeline for a full recovery was expected to take about three months, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The quarterback had middling production through eight games last season with 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes. As one of the teams that hired a new head coach, Dallas' offseason workouts are scheduled to start April 7, which is two weeks earlier than teams with no head coaching change. These early workouts will be the best opportunity to evaluate Prescott's health until OTAs and mandatory minicamp that typically run through mid-June. The start date for the offseason program has yet to be determined. Participating in said program under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who was promoted from offensive coordinator this offseason, could be critical as Prescott aims to bounce back in 2025.

Jerry Donabedian looks at rookies whose ADPs shifted after the NFL Scouting Combine, including some like Ashton Jeanty who didn't even go through workouts.

Jerry Donabedian assesses the difficulty of drafting various teammate stacks, including Denver's Bo Nix, Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims.

The popularity of Cincinnati stacks seems to be inflating ADPs for Tee Higgins and Joe Burrow. RW's Jerry Donabedian has the full scoop, looking at early ADP results from two best-ball sites.

RotoWire's Jerry Donabedian compares his Top 200 to early ADP and finds that most drafters don't share his optimism about Bucky Irving and Courtland Sutton.

The talk in Dallas entering last season was how run-the-ball Mike McCarthy taking over the playcalling would impact Prescott. Suffice to say, it worked out. McCarthy gave Prescott 590 pass attempts, which propelled him to QB3 in fantasy, as he finished third in passing yards (4,516) and first in TD passes (36). Not only did Dak get volume, but he also was highly accurate, leading the league with an 81.2 on-target percentage and ranking third in completion rate at a career-high 69.5 percent. His high rate of short passes (68.0 percent, 4th) wasn’t out of the ordinary for his career, and he actually threw deep more often than in 2022, as 10.2 percent of his attempts went 20-plus yards (12th) for eight TDs (2nd). CeeDee Lamb was again the lone major threat wideout, but tight end Jake Ferguson added 71 catches and five touchdowns. That’ll be the case again this year, though Prescott's TDs could dip given that his 26.0 red-zone TD pass percentage -- which resulted in 27 scores -- likely will regress closer to league average. The backfield is also a bit of a question with Tony Pollard leaving and Ezekiel Elliott returning. Prescott doesn’t run much these days (3.2 rushes/game, 25th), so he’ll need to approach 600 attempts again to have any chance at staying in the top 5 of fantasy QBs.

Could have rookie backup in 2025
The Cowboys could add a quarterback through the 2025 NFL Draft to serve as the backup behind Prescott, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott and Will Grier are the only two quarterbacks on the Cowboys' roster after Cooper Rush signed a two-year contract with the Ravens on Sunday. Trey Lance is an option to return, but drafting a quarterback would be a move similar to what the Cowboys did in 2016 when they selected Prescott in the fourth round to serve as the backup behind Tony Romo. Prescott is in the final stages of his recovery from surgery in mid-November to repair his torn right hamstring, and the 31-year-old's health could factor into Dallas adding a quarterback through the draft.
