It's quite a light Friday for the NHL. There are a mere two games on the slate. Your options are slim, but here are my recommendations for your daily fantasy lineup.
GOALIE
Braden Holtby, WAS vs. MIN ($8,800): Holtby's 2.80 GAA and .912 save percentage at home aren't great, but they are better than his road numbers, and they'll do in a pinch. Plus, he does have a 2.65 GAA in his last 14 games. There are only four goalies playing, and there is nothing to like about the other three matchups in the slightest, so almost by default Holtby wins.
CENTER
Ryan Getzlaf, ANA vs. SAN ($5,900): Getzlaf has notched seven points in his last six games, which is likely a relief given how this season has gone for him. As for the Sharks, they have struggled somewhat strangely on the road. They have a 3.43 GAA in away games, and on top of that they are on the road for the second night of a back-to-back.
Joe Thornton, SAN at ANA ($5,500): It's a night for veteran centers, apparently. Thornton has been even hotter than his counterpart in Anaheim, as he has 13 points in his last 15 games. Though the Ducks have a middling 3.04 GAA, they've also allowed 33.3 shots on net per contest.
WING
Zach Parise, MIN at WAS ($6,600): I may have recommended Holtby in net, but, not so strongly that I'm going to entirely eschew Wild players with only four teams in action. As for Parise's bona fides, he has a point in each of his last three games, all on the power play. Meanwhile, the Capitals have the 22nd-ranked penalty kill.
T.J. Oshie, WAS vs. MIN ($6,500): Oshie has five points in his last five games, giving him 47 points on the season. That includes 23 goals, which he's managed in only 63 games. Though the Wild haven't been bad defensively by any means, they do have a 3.00 GAA since the All-Star break. With only four teams in action, that's enough for me.
Troy Terry, ANA vs. SAN ($3,700): Terry has started 60.1 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest among Anaheim forwards. He hasn't had any points in his last few games, but recently he had eight points in six contests. The 21-year-old rookie is still a promising player with only 30 NHL games to his name, so there's a lot left to learn about him. I'm willing to take a flyer on Terry against a Sharks team on the road for the second game of a back-to-back.
DEFENSE
Ryan Suter, MIN at WAS ($5,300): There's not a lot to recommend on the defensive side of things, unless you want to shell out the big bucks. Suter is a slightly cheaper option with some upside, despite his age. He's got a point in each of his last two games, both on the power play. The 34-year-old has averaged 3:04 per game with the extra man, notching 15 power-play points in the process. Even if Holtby's GAA has been better recently, the Capitals do still have the 22nd-ranked penalty kill.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic, SAN at ANA ($4,300): Vlasic isn't always known for his offensive prowess but he does have eight points in his last eight games. Additionally, he has a 2.4 shooting percentage, which is the worst of his career. Maybe it's just taken a while for his luck to even out. As for the Ducks, they have a 3.21 GAA since the All-Star break.
