NHL Thursday Night: Top Betting Picks and Parlay Insights

Utah Mammoth at St. Louis Blues

The Mammoth (5-2-0) and the Blues (3-2-1) meet at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, and puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. The game is available for ESPN+.

These teams met four times last season, splitting 2-2, with the road team winning once each in two meetings in the other team's barn. The total went 1-1-2 in those four games, too, so there isn't a lot to glean from those trends.

For Utah, it is on a roll, winning four consecutive games. The first two wins in the streak were against the Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks, so that isn't terribly impressive. But it won 4-3 in overtime against the visiting Colorado Avalanche last time out, and that certainly turned heads.

Karel Vejmelka allowed three goals on 33 shots in the OT win. Dylan Guenther struck for an OT goal, with helpers to Clayton Keller and Mikhail Sergachev. The rearguard ended up with an unassisted goal and three points, while Nick Schmaltz had a power-play goal in regulation.

The Blues are looking to rebound from a 2-1 OTL against the Los Angeles Kings last time out Tuesday as the Under (5.5) cashed.

Montreal Canadiens at Edmonton Oilers

The Canadiens (6-2-0) continue their road trip, facing the Oilers (3-3-1) at Rogers Place on Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET.

Montreal picked up a 2-1 win in overtime in Calgary on Wednesday night, and now it faces the quick turnaround. The Canadiens faced a back-to-back earlier this season, losing 5-2 in Toronto on Oct. 8, while winning 5-1 in Detroit the next night on no rest behind Jakub Dobes. The Habs are expected to start Sam Montembeault in this second end of the back-to-back. Montreal has won three in a row on the road.

The Oilers are back home after a five-game road trip, which saw them go 2-3-0. Edmonton won 3-2 in overtime Tuesday in Ottawa as the Under (6) cashed. Stuart Skinner kicked aside 19 of the 21 shots he faced for the win, while Jake Walman netted the game-winning tally in OT. The Under is 4-1-1 in the past six games for the Oilers.

Edmonton has won three of the past four games, but all three of those victories have come in overtime. On the puck line, Montreal has covered as an underdog in each of the past five meetings in the series since Feb. 12, 2023.

Let's take Montreal on the puck line as an underdog, and with the Under going 4-0 in the past four in the series, let's go low on the total.

  • Canadiens +1.5 (-125 at Bet365, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings and ESPN Bet Sportsbooks)
  • Under 6.5 Goals (-125 at Bet365, Caesars and DraftKings Sportsbook)

Carolina Hurricanes at Colorado Avalanche

The Hurricanes (5-1-0) and Avalanche (5-0-2) clash at Ball Arena in Denver, with a puck drop of 9 p.m. ET.

The teams have split the regular-season series in each of the past two seasons, and the home team has won each of those four meetings. The Over is 4-0 in that span, too.

Carolina suffered its first loss of the season, losing 4-1 at Vegas last time out Monday as Frederik Andersen allowed three goals on 25 shots, while Sebastian Aho scored the only goal. The Hurricanes had scored at least four goals in each of the first five games. It had allowed three or fewer goals until the loss to VGK. The Under is 3-1 in the past four outings.

For the Avalanche, they fell 4-3 in overtime at Utah, but they've yet to lose in regulation in seven games. Scott Wedgewood (5-0-2, 1.84 GAA, .927 save percentage) continues to fill in for the injured Mackenzie Blackwood (lower-body injury) and is listed as week-to-week.

Jack Drury and Martin Necas, two former Hurricanes, notched goals in the third period, helping the Avs to at least force overtime in Salt Lake City. But, eventually, the Mammoth prevailed.

Let's back the home side to get the job done, and we'll go high on the total, as these two high-octane offenses face each other. And, they'll each look good doing it, too, as the Hurricanes wear Hartford Whalers throwback jerseys, while the Avalanche wear Quebec Nordiques throwback jerseys.
