Best Bets for Thursday Night Football: Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans
Best Bets for Bills at Texans | Nick Chubb: Over 20.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
The Bills have struggled against the run, giving up the fourth-most rushing yards to running backs (116.6 per game) and an average of 3.5 yards per carry. In their last two games, these numbers have increased dramatically, with Tampa Bay's running backs totaling 157 yards and Miami's going for 180, both well above the season average.
Houston has recently been using running back Woody Marks more often, especially in the past two games. However, this week is a short one, so the RB2s tend to get extra touches during these times. Chubb is well-rested, having just eight carries over his last two appearances. Still, he managed 47 and 17 rushing yards in those contests and has surpassed 20.5 rushing yards in eight of ten games this season; the misnomers were only 16 and 17 yards.
On Sunday, Marks handled a season-high 18 carries in an easy matchup against the Titans but came up short with just 44 rushing yards. Expect Chubb to be featured again and likely exceed the benchmark of 20.5 rushing yards.
Best Bets for Bills at Texans | Ty Johnson: Over 8.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
From one RB2 to another, Johnson finds himself in a great spot based on recent performances. The Texans' defense has been quite solid, but the guys out of the backfield are seeing the most success against them compared to the other skill positions.
Over the last few games, RBs against Houston have been accumulating those receiving: TEN: 8 catches (8 targets) for 35 yards, JAC: 4 catches (7 targets) for 30 yards, DEN: 8 catches (9 targets) for 55 yards, SF: 3 catches (6 targets) for 43 yards.
In looking at the numbers, the opportunities will certainly be there, and Johnson has certainly earned more snaps of late. Johnson had a huge 52-yard TD reception on Sunday against Tampa, and he's passed 8.5 receiving yards in four of his last five games, including each of the last three.
Best Bets for Bills at Texans | Nico Collins: Over 74.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
Alright, I saved the best for last. Collins' performance has shown consistent improvement while Davis Mills has served as the Texans' quarterback. Over the past three games, Collins recorded seven receptions (11 targets) for 75 yards against Denver, seven receptions (15 targets) for 136 yards against Jacksonville, and nine receptions (10 targets) for 92 yards and a TD at Tennessee.
Although the Bills have been torn up by opposing running backs this season, primary wide receivers have also found success against their defense. In fact, prior to last week's game in Buffalo, five consecutive WR1s gained at least 80 receiving yards. Collins is well-positioned to continue this trend and potentially deliver another strong performance versus Buffalo.
