Race Preview
Last week's kickoff to the NASCAR's Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series championship playoffs saw nonplayoff contender Sam Mayer score his first win in the series, beating Brett Moffitt on fresher tires. Moffitt was the highest-placing playoff driver in second place. Austin Hill was the lowest-place playoff driver after getting caught in an incident and leaving Bristol with a 25th-place finish. As result, no driver has yet clinched a spot in the next round of eliminations. That leaves a big opportunity for someone to make something happen this week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch won the spring Las Vegas race earlier this year after leading 108 of 134 laps. Johnny Sauter was the runner-up with Austin Hill rounding out the top three.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a quick 1.5-mile oval that has been won by a driver starting in the first three rows six of the last eight races. The winner has started from the first four rows in seven of the last eight. Toyota has won five of the last six races there, too. The track places a premium on handling and track position. Decisions to come to pit road or stay out can be key in determining the outcome, but teams that unload with the right setup for speed will have an advantage. Teams that are off will have to make efficient use of their trips down pit road to give their drivers the handling they need to move through the field. However, without track position the leaders may be out of touch before those changes have an impact.

Austin Hill is the defending winner of this week's race in Las Vegas. Hill started that race seventh and led 29 laps on his way to the win and will start 11th Friday night. Christian Eckes started last year's race from pole position. He finished third in that outing and then started fourth at the track this spring. He led 10 laps in that spring race and will start ninth in this week's race. Ben Rhodes, seventh in the championship standings, won at Las Vegas in 2017 and then finished fifth at the track in the spring. He will start this week's race in eighth position. Another driver fantasy players may want to consider this week is Ryan Truex. He only has one series start at Las Vegas, but he started that race from pole and went on to finish 12th. Truex starts 24th this week and should score plenty of fantasy points as he moves up in the running order. Starting 27th on Friday will be IndyCar veteran Conor Daly. This will be Daly's first start in the series. His effort will be a huge challenge, but may be a value for fantasy players. He and Travis Pastrana are both being backed by iRacing and could be valuable fantasy options. Starting last in the field will be Tim Viens. This will be his eighth series start this season and he should be capable of a finish better than 25th, which would be a nice return to fantasy owners willing to take a risk on him this week.
